Delhi residents can expect a slight breather from the rain today, though the roads are set to get trickier because of a major diplomatic event. The spell of rain that has lashed the city over the past few days is expected to pause, with dry weather likely across Delhi-NCR. According to the weather office, chances of rainfall today are low, though a few pockets could still see light drizzle.
Traffic diversions begin ahead of the BRICS summit
The BRICS summit is set to be held at Bharat Mandapam between September 11 and September 13, with heads of state and prime ministers from several countries expected to attend. Ahead of the event, traffic police have stepped up enforcement from today itself. Diversion plans are being worked out for routes around Pragati Maidan, the Supreme Court, ITO, Mathura Road and India Gate. Commuters passing through these stretches over the next few days should expect some inconvenience, and it would help to plan alternate routes before heading out.
Adding to the challenge, several parts of Delhi are already dealing with waterlogging left behind by the earlier spell of rain. That is why authorities have flagged both the summit related restrictions and the waterlogging hit areas separately, in an effort to keep the impact on traffic movement to a minimum over the coming days.
What the temperature will look like today
Per the India Meteorological Department, Delhi-NCR is likely to see partly cloudy skies on September 8, though the chance of actual rainfall remains low. Temperatures are expected to rise compared to the past two days, with the maximum likely to settle between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. The weather department has also indicated that light drizzle cannot be ruled out in some pockets, meaning the city isn't entirely out of the rain yet.
