A tragic case of suspected domestic homicide has emerged from the Mattewal police station jurisdiction in Amritsar district, where a 19-year-old woman named Navneet Kaur was allegedly killed by her father following persistent doubts regarding her character. The suspect buried her body in a pit behind their home to conceal the crime. The tragedy came to light after the victim's mother, Sarabjit Kaur, became suspicious of her husband's evasive claims, hired an excavator to dig up the backyard, and uncovered her missing daughter's remains.
Domestic Friction and the August 31 Call
In her official statement to law enforcement, Sarabjit Kaur explained that the family has two daughters. The elder daughter, 19-year-old Navneet Kaur, had completed her education. Approximately six months prior, Navneet had left home with her partner but returned home after a few days. This past event led to frequent domestic disputes, with the father constantly questioning the conduct of both daughters.
The critical chain of events began on August 25, when Sarabjit Kaur left for her parents' home, leaving both daughters in the care of their father. On August 31, Navneet managed to call her mother on the phone, mentioning that her father was digging a large pit in the backyard. Immediately following that conversation, all communication with Navneet ceased.
Uncovering the Deception and Police Investigation
Upon returning home on Wednesday, Sarabjit Kaur found Navneet missing. When questioned, her husband claimed he had sent Navneet to stay with a relative for six months. Recalling her daughter's call about the pit, Sarabjit suspected foul play and immediately alerted the local police.
Authorities arrived at the scene and conducted an excavation of the backyard using a JCB digger, which led to the recovery of Navneet's body. Preliminary findings indicate that the young woman was murdered approximately two days prior to the discovery and buried secretly to destroy evidence.
Police have taken custody of the victim's body and dispatched it for a post-mortem examination. A formal case charging the accused father with murder and destruction of evidence has been registered. The Mattewal police are investigating all circumstances surrounding the crime while awaiting autopsy findings.
