The cabins are spacious enough to easily accommodate stretchers and wheelchairs, allowing patients to be transported directly to the appropriate ward, intensive care unit, or operation theater without unnecessary delays.
Expanding Specialized Medical Services
Hospital management points out that the new multi-story block will house modern operation theaters, intensive care units, and several other specialized healthcare services. Because critical patients frequently need to be moved quickly between floors, the addition of high-speed lifts is crucial for preventing treatment delays during emergencies and ensuring timely medical intervention reaches those in need.
Comprehensive Fire Safety Upgrades
To bolster safety standards for everyone on the premises, an advanced fire fighting system costing approximately sixty lakh rupees will be installed across the main campus of SK Hospital, the new multi-story building, and Janana Hospital. This comprehensive setup will incorporate automatic fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, alarm systems, and heavy-duty fire pipelines. Upon detecting the initial signs of smoke or fire, the system will autonomously activate to help suppress the hazard.
Although the facility currently maintains portable fire extinguishers utilizing dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide, and clean agents, the existing primary fire fighting infrastructure has become completely non-functional. Given the expansive layout of the hospital grounds and the demands of multi-story architecture, the new installation is considered a vital necessity. Once operational, the upgraded safety apparatus will provide a much higher level of protection for patients, medical professionals, and support staff alike.
Statistics show that more than two thousand patients visit SK Hospital daily for medical consultation and treatment. At the same time, older structures within the campus continue to deteriorate, with past incidents involving falling plaster or ceiling fragments raising serious safety concerns. Consequently, the administration is actively preparing to shift wards and services into the newly built block to ensure care is delivered in a secure and modern environment.
Project Timeline and Administrative Steps
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Priyanka Aman stated that rapid progress is being made on the plans to install the three lifts in the new block and modernize the fire safety networks at both SK Hospital and Janana Hospital. Detailed cost estimates for both projects are currently being prepared by the Public Works Department. Once the necessary budget receives formal approval, tender notices will be issued and construction will commence, allowing patients to benefit from these modern amenities in the near future.
