Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is on a three day visit to West Bengal from July 17 to July 19, 2026. This is his first detailed visit to the state since the Bharatiya Janata Party formed its government there for the first time after the recent assembly elections, which is why the trip is being seen as particularly significant.
What the visit will focus on
Over the three days, Amit Shah is scheduled to take part in programmes centred on border security, governance, law and order and development. According to the details shared, he will chair separate meetings in both Siliguri and Kolkata during the trip, besides taking part in several development related events.
July 18: BSF meetings in Siliguri
On the morning of July 18, Amit Shah will travel to the Jumagachh border outpost of the Border Security Force, BSF, in Siliguri. There, he will interact with BSF personnel posted at the 18th Battalion's border outpost, and will inaugurate several BSF development works as well as lay the foundation stone for new projects. In the afternoon, the Home Minister will chair a meeting on matters related to the border in West Bengal. This will be followed by a review meeting on the complete implementation of three new laws in the state. In the evening, Amit Shah will hold another meeting, this time on issues related to birth and death registration in Bengal.
July 19: law and order review and two inaugurations in Kolkata
On the final day of the tour, July 19, Amit Shah will reach Kolkata. In the morning, he will chair a meeting on the current law and order situation in West Bengal. In the afternoon, he will inaugurate the first phase of the Museum of Words, built inside the National Library in Alipore. Right after that, the Home Minister will head to the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata, where he will lay the foundation stone for Amul Dairy's curd plant in West Bengal.
