Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini delivered a strong political address in Punjab, outlining his party's vision for governance and law enforcement in the state. Speaking to media persons on Sunday in the Rampura area of Amritsar, he declared that if the Bharatiya Janata Party comes to power after the upcoming state assembly elections, it will take uncompromising action against those involved in the drug trade. He stated that all drug traffickers would be driven out of Punjab once a BJP government is formed. In addition, the Chief Minister pledged to establish an administration centered on transparency, accountability, and a firm stance against corruption.
Tackling the Drug Crisis and Rebuilding Youth Lives
During his interaction with reporters, Nayab Singh Saini expressed severe concern over the expanding footprint of substance abuse in Punjab. He highlighted that addiction has grown beyond a simple law enforcement issue to become a major social crisis impacting the entire region. According to Saini, drug abuse not only degrades the physical and mental well-being of young individuals but also destroys the aspirations and stability of entire families. He explained that a BJP administration would tackle the problem through a dual approach. While law enforcement will relentlessly target traffickers and remove them from the state, large-scale support mechanisms and rehabilitation programs will be launched to treat and reintegrate affected youth back into society.
Criticism of the Ruling AAP Government and Promises of Reform
Turning his focus to the political administration in Punjab, the Haryana Chief Minister launched a scathing attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party for its failure to fulfill key election pledges. He noted that AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had promised the citizens of Punjab a clean and transparent governance model during the previous assembly election campaign. However, Saini asserted that the current government has completely reneged on those commitments. He alleged that the AAP administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has proved to be even more corrupt than the preceding Congress government. Saini assured voters that the BJP would eliminate administrative corruption and introduce governance that is truly accountable to the public.
The Attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal and Speculation Over Early Polls
The gravity of the drug situation in the state was recently underscored during a violent attack on Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Initial probe findings indicated that the attacker was deeply distressed and angry over the unchecked drug menace in Punjab. Meanwhile, political discussions across the state are also focusing heavily on the timeline for the upcoming assembly elections. Officially, Punjab is scheduled to go to the polls in early 2027, with voting likely to occur around February 2027, though the Election Commission of India is yet to issue a formal notification. However, speculation has surfaced that elections might be advanced to November this year. These discussions gained momentum after AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hinted at the possibility of early elections during a roadshow in Bathinda.
