The Congress party is gearing up for one of the most extensive administrative and organisational overhauls in its recent history to inject fresh momentum into its ranks. A major reshuffle at the All India Congress Committee secretary level is on the horizon, with roughly fifty percent of the current secretaries widely expected to be relieved of their duties. Senior leadership has finalized a comprehensive blueprint to hand over key organisational responsibilities to younger and more dynamic faces across the country.
Rigorous Screening and Detailed Dossiers
Prior to this major restructuring, a strict screening process involving around one hundred thirty potential contenders was conducted over the course of a week. Beginning on September 7, the interview rounds were organized in an entirely professional manner, featuring detailed dossiers compiled for every participating leader. This confidential report contained a comprehensive record of their past organisational work, grassroots activity, and electoral performance to evaluate their suitability for future roles.
High-Level Review Meeting With Top Leadership
Top leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with organisation general secretary KC Venugopal, are scheduled to hold a crucial review meeting with the incumbent secretaries. During this session, individual performance report cards will be presented, and direct feedback will be delivered to the officials. Political observers expect that the final list for the new appointments will receive formal approval immediately following this meeting, allowing underperforming officials to be replaced by fresh blood.
Current Organisational Setup and Interview Format
At present, the party has sixty-four All India Congress Committee secretaries, the majority of whom are deployed across various states to work under respective general secretaries or in-charges, overseeing and assisting state unit operations. Several secretaries are also stationed at the party headquarters in New Delhi, serving in the offices of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Venugopal. According to participants, the interviews were conducted in groups of twelve to fourteen individuals, where the top leadership probed candidates extensively about their contributions to the organisation.
Targeted Questions and Hypothetical Scenarios
Participants revealed that they were initially asked to provide a brief introduction before facing direct queries regarding their tenure and contributions within the party. Leaders were asked to elaborate on what they achieved in their respective roles, why they chose specific approaches, how they contributed, and where they felt they fell short. Furthermore, candidates were presented with hypothetical political scenarios, such as devising strategies to revive the party in states with poor electoral records or upcoming contests.
Focus on Organisational Revamp Campaign
Candidates were also questioned regarding the organisation revamp campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at rebuilding the party structure from the ground up. Sources indicated that while about half of the existing secretaries may be relieved of their current portfolios, due consideration will be given to individuals who have been assigned new responsibilities or promoted under the campaign in recent weeks. Although the formal agenda for the upcoming meeting has not been explicitly communicated to the secretaries, insiders maintain that performance evaluation and upcoming transitions will dominate the discussions.
