Amid persistent economic turmoil and ongoing governance challenges in Pakistan, a fresh administrative crisis has emerged involving top government officials planning to migrate abroad while still holding active public office. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has publicly questioned the integrity and loyalty of the country's senior bureaucracy, highlighting a growing trend of officials securing permanent settlements overseas.
Bureaucrats Establishing Roots in Western Nations
According to statements made by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, several civil servants meticulously planned their exit from the country during their tenure through a well-calculated strategy. Over the past few years, Portugal has notably emerged as a primary destination where a large number of Pakistani bureaucrats have relocated. Alongside Portugal, officials have established permanent homes in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and various other European nations.
Agent Involvement and Financial Fraud in Residency Plans
The defense minister disclosed that the officials allegedly involved in this exodus have previously held highly influential positions within the government and maintained close ties with successive political administrations. Furthermore, the individual who facilitated the permanent residency arrangements reportedly collected hefty sums of money from these high-ranking bureaucrats before eventually fleeing. However, Asif has not disclosed the specific identities of these officials, nor has he provided concrete documentary evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Questioning Loyalty and State Commitment
Calling the entire sequence of events deeply troubling, Asif questioned whether senior officials who enjoyed immense privileges, perks, and social standing while serving the state were ever truly loyal to Pakistan. He asked whether such individuals view Pakistan as their genuine home or merely treat it as a temporary transit station before successfully transitioning to a comfortable life abroad.
