Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again targeted the government over the ongoing student protests. Addressing a high-profile press conference in Delhi on the NEET paper leak issue, Gandhi accused the current government of manipulating the country's entire education system. During the same press conference, he placed three demands before the government on behalf of the protesting students.
Demand One: The Education Minister Must Go
Gandhi's first demand is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He argued that responsibility for the NEET paper leak must be fixed, and that Pradhan should step down from his post as a matter of accountability.
Demand Two: Action Against Those Who Assaulted Students
The second demand concerns the alleged assault on protesting students. According to Gandhi, whoever used force against the demonstrators and beat them must be identified and face strict action. Students have alleged that force was used against them during the protests, a claim that has intensified calls for accountability against those responsible.
Demand Three: An Apology From The Prime Minister
The third demand is directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi wants the Prime Minister to personally and publicly apologise for the action taken against students on 20 July.
