Union Minister and Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief Ramdas Athawale has strongly criticized those opposing the quota system, demanding that sedition charges be filed against individuals or groups demanding the abolition of reservations. He asserted that reservation is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution and cannot be done away with.
Opposition to Quotas Is Opposition to the Constitution
Athawale stated that anti-reservation protests, including demonstrations announced at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, have brought the issue back into the spotlight. He alleged that online campaigns on social media are continuously pushing for the removal or alteration of the reservation framework. According to him, taking an anti-reservation stance is equivalent to standing against the constitution itself, and strict legal action under sedition laws is warranted against such elements.
Reaffirming Constitutional Protections
Emphasizing the legal sanctity of quotas, the Union Minister noted that despite ongoing controversies and demands from various corners, reservation cannot and will not be scrapped because it is a legally mandated constitutional provision designed to ensure social justice. He urged citizens to recognize the importance of these constitutional safeguards.
