Union Minister and Republican Party of India (Athawale) chief Ramdas Athawale has strongly asserted that individuals opposing reservation or demanding its termination should face sedition charges. Speaking from Mumbai, he stressed that the reservation framework is a protected constitutional right and any attempts to undermine it directly challenge the foundational laws of the nation.
Concern Over Protests and Digital Campaigns
Highlighting recent developments, Athawale pointed out that anti-reservation demonstrations, including planned protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, have brought this contentious debate back into the public spotlight. He also noted a surge in digital campaigns across social media networks where organized groups are actively demanding the dismantling or alteration of the existing quota system.
Strict Legal Action for Anti-Constitutional Stances
The minister maintained that standing against reservation is fundamentally equivalent to standing against the Constitution itself. He argued that those adopting such anti-reservation stances are effectively acting against the nation and deserve stringent legal measures under sedition laws. Reassuring the public, he concluded that despite ongoing controversies, the system cannot be done away with because it remains an indispensable right granted by the Constitution.
