The political landscape for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections is beginning to take shape, with recent events in Ballia highlighting growing tensions. OP Rajbhar, the president of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, addressed a public meeting where he launched a fierce critique against the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. He characterized both opposition parties as spent forces, predicting that they will face a complete electoral wipeout in the upcoming assembly polls.
The claim of a total wipeout
Drawing on historical data, OP Rajbhar reminded the audience that in the 2017 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party and the Congress had formed an alliance but managed to secure only 47 seats in total. He mocked the opposition, stating that the same stagnant forces are now preparing for the 2027 contest. He went as far as to claim that if the Samajwadi Party manages to win even 27 seats in the next election, it would be a major achievement for them, suggesting that their influence has waned significantly.
A challenge in Purvanchal
Minister OP Rajbhar issued a direct challenge to the Samajwadi Party regarding their ground-level reality in several districts of the Purvanchal region. He broke down the electoral math for specific areas, asserting that in Varanasi, which has 9 assembly constituencies, the Samajwadi Party would not even be able to open its account. Regarding Chandauli, where the Samajwadi Party currently holds one seat, he claimed that he would ensure an NDA victory by defeating them there as well. Similarly, he predicted a complete rout in the 7 constituencies of Ghazipur, while suggesting that the opposition's presence in Jaunpur would be reduced to just two seats.
Shivpal Yadav's rebuttal
OP Rajbhar has frequently made headlines for his provocative statements. When Shivpal Yadav was recently asked about the continuous allegations leveled by Rajbhar against Akhilesh Yadav, he responded sharply. He stated that Rajbhar's remarks carry no weight and suggested that he is in urgent need of medical treatment. According to Shivpal, only a specialist doctor would be able to treat him effectively. This exchange follows other recent criticisms from Rajbhar, who had previously mocked Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA slogan by suggesting that the 'A' in the acronym could even be interpreted as a reference to a terrorist.
