Delhi's Patiala House Court has granted regular bail to Swatantra Bhardwaj in connection with the violence and assault incident that occurred at Jantar Mantar. The legal proceedings against him include charges filed under the SC-ST Act. This order provides significant legal relief to the accused, who had earlier been granted three weeks of interim bail by the same court.
The Incident at Jantar Mantar
The controversy stems from an altercation during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Allegations in the case involve an assault on a CJP demonstrator, alongside allegations regarding an attack on Nishu's father. Following the confrontation, law enforcement registered a case that invoked provisions of the SC-ST Act alongside relevant sections of the penal code.
Transition from Interim to Regular Bail
Earlier in the legal proceedings, the Patiala House Court had granted Swatantra Bhardwaj interim bail for a period of three weeks. Following judicial hearings upon the conclusion of that interim window, the court accepted the plea for regular bail. Under the terms of the court's latest order, Bhardwaj will continue to participate in the trial process while out on regular bail.
