The volatile atmosphere inside one of northern India's most secure penitentiaries is being fueled by ongoing disruptions created by associates of jailed gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara. Prison authorities and local police are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any violent outbreaks or untoward incidents between rival inmates. Superintendent of Police Harshwardhan Agarwal is personally monitoring the situation to ensure strict adherence to security protocols.
Hardcore inmate Sachin Thapan, who spent nearly 18 days on a hunger strike that severely impacted his health, was discharged from the hospital and returned to the high-security facility under heavy security. His prolonged refusal to consume food had caused a sharp decline in his physical condition, prompting prison authorities to shift him to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Following a thorough medical examination and subsequent improvement in his health, he was escorted back to his high-security ward.
Sachin Thapan has been confined in the Ajmer facility for approximately two and a half years. According to prison authorities, he faces serious charges of orchestrating the assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. In addition, multiple severe cases involving extortion and murder have been registered against him across Rajasthan, including in the Hanumangarh region, as well as in Punjab. Given his extensive criminal background and high-risk status, he was placed in the high-security facility. He is reportedly a nephew of Lawrence Bishnoi.
The volatile environment inside the prison was further exacerbated in September when a verbal altercation broke out among inmates housed within the barracks. Authorities reported that Thapan and his associates allegedly engaged in a scuffle with prison guards, tearing floor tiles and hurling debris toward other inmates. The ensuing chaos required the deployment of additional security personnel to separate the unruly prisoners and restore order. While some of Thapan's associates eventually called off their subsequent hunger strike after administrative intervention, Thapan himself persisted with his protest.
Prison officials noted that Thapan sustained his hunger strike for an extended period, citing religious reasons for refusing regular meals. Although officials arranged for fruits and alternative food supplies to be provided to him, he repeatedly refused sustenance. The prolonged starvation resulted in severe weakness and health complications, necessitating multiple visits to the hospital under the guidance of the prison physician. Following a comprehensive medical assessment and necessary treatment, his condition stabilized, enabling authorities to transfer him back to the prison while keeping local security dynamics in mind.
Investigators indicate that Thapan's primary demand involves the relocation of his associates into his specific ward. In response to previous security incidents and the ongoing rivalry between factions, prison management has kept key inmates isolated from one another. It is widely believed that Thapan utilized the hunger strike as a pressure tactic to compel authorities into granting his demands.
The underlying risk stems from the complex relationship between Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara. While their respective syndicates previously operated in alliance, differences eventually led to a bitter falling-out and mutual hostility.
