A major security alert was triggered in Ajmer on Wednesday as notorious undertrial inmate Sachin Thapan had to be shifted from the local high-security prison to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital following a steep decline in his physical condition. Medical specialists immediately admitted him for intensive observation and treatment. Heavy police contingents have cordoned off the treatment zone to avert any security breaches. The prisoner had been entirely abstaining from food for the past 17 to 18 days, leading to extreme physical weakness and related health complications.
Deadlock Over Cell Allocation and Prison Rules
The confrontation between the inmate and prison authorities stems from an earlier disciplinary violation inside the facility. Two associates linked to Sachin Thapan are also housed in the same detention center. Recently, these two inmates vandalized and smashed the CCTV surveillance cameras installed within their holding area. The prison administration responded decisively by lodging a formal First Information Report at the Civil Lines police station regarding the property damage.
Following this incident, Thapan insisted that prison authorities transfer both associates directly into his barrack and reassign his own cell. Jail administrators firmly refused this demand, emphasizing that standard security norms and institutional regulations strictly forbid concentrating coordinated criminal elements together. Outraged by the official refusal to yield to his conditions, the inmate launched a hunger strike as a pressure tactic.
Moosewala Conspiracy and International Extradition
Sachin Thapan is the nephew of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and stands as a key conspirator in the high-profile murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Official investigations established that he played an instrumental role in orchestrating the logistical network and organizing firearms for the execution of the crime. Prior to the fatal shooting, he managed to flee India using a forged passport, seeking temporary refuge in Dubai before moving into Azerbaijan.
Following sustained diplomatic and legal coordination by Indian enforcement agencies, he was successfully extradited back to India on August 1, 2023. Given his high-threat operational profile, he was subsequently placed under stringent surveillance in Rajasthan's maximum-security detention environment in Ajmer.
Medical Surveillance and Heightened Security Protocols
Throughout the initial stages of his protest, the prisoner consistently refused internal medical intervention offered by jail doctors. When his vital signs deteriorated past a manageable threshold due to the prolonged absence of nourishment, authorities arranged his urgent transfer to JLN Hospital under tactical security cover. Hospital Deputy Superintendent Amit Yadav confirmed that a dedicated team of physicians is continuously evaluating his metabolic indicators and administering required clinical therapy, while law enforcement maintains strict vigil around the facility.
