The poll bugle has officially sounded for the Alwar Municipal Corporation in Rajasthan, and preparations to elect the city government are gathering intense momentum. From councilors to the mayoral seat, political parties and prospective candidates are busy chalking out their strategies. However, the most pressing question on everyone's mind is what kind of mayor the people of Alwar actually want. To find out, a team reached Balla Boda village in Ward Number 1 of the Alwar Municipal Corporation to ask villagers about their expectations for the upcoming mayoral leadership. With the decades-old Alwar Municipal Council now being upgraded to a municipal corporation spanning 65 wards, a female mayor will steer the city government for the very first time. The mayoral post in the Alwar Municipal Corporation has been unreserved for women this time, setting off a wave of discussions across the city regarding the kind of development work the new leadership will undertake.
Villagers Still Await Basic Infrastructure
Yakub Khan from Balla Boda village stated that the corporation needs a mayor and councilor who actively work toward the development of both the ward and the city. He emphasized the need for a mayor who addresses fundamental public grievances such as building paved drains, maintaining proper sanitation, and ensuring adequate drinking water arrangements. Despite being a part of Alwar city for over 50 years, Balla Boda village in Ward Number 1 is still awaiting expected development. Villagers point out that even after being included within the municipal council limits, the village continues to suffer from a persistent shortage of basic amenities and developmental projects.
Addressing Public Grievances And Infrastructure Gaps
Local resident Dharam Singh Yadav stated that the Alwar Municipal Corporation's mayor should be someone who listens to the public issues of city residents and resolves them promptly. Meanwhile, Zafar Khan pointed out that water scarcity, faulty streetlights, broken roads, and garbage accumulation are the biggest problems in Ward 1. Even after being integrated into the city for more than five decades, rural areas within the municipal limits remain deprived of essential facilities. City residents expressed that this time they want a mayor who can establish proper sanitation, better roads, and reliable electricity and water systems. Alwar residents noted that roads get waterlogged during the monsoon season, making it crucial for the new mayor to fix the drainage system and work toward keeping Alwar clean and tidy.
Sanitation And Water Remain The Biggest Challenges
Naseem Khan noted that several wards around Alwar feature broken roads and missing drains, with water stagnation visible in multiple places, causing significant distress to the public. Sanitation and water supply remain the most acute challenges in Alwar. Yashwant Kumar Gupta shared that roads in Ward 1 of the city are frequently choked with accumulated mud. He added that he is 55 years old, and ever since he has lived here, he has continuously witnessed basic hardships related to electricity, water, and cleanliness in Alwar city.
Voter Turnout And Election Schedule
Gupta noted that despite the passage of years, a permanent solution to these persistent problems has remained elusive. Therefore, since mayoral elections are being held for the first time in the Alwar Municipal Corporation, whoever wins from any party should drive urban development so citizens can reap the benefits. Notably, a total of 2,66,405 voters will exercise their franchise in this election cycle. This includes 1,36,654 male voters, 1,29,723 female voters, and 18 transgender voters. The municipality comprises 65 wards, for which 241 polling booths will be established. Voting for councilors in the Alwar Municipal Corporation will take place on September 9, while the mayor will be elected by the councilors on September 21.
