A high level review of national security and military preparedness took place in the border district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a crucial meeting of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence. The discussions were primarily anchored on the modernization of the Indian armed forces, addressing the rapid transformation in global warfare, technological evolution, emerging security hurdles, and the imperative to significantly enhance the operational strength of the army, navy, and air force.
Adapting to Evolving Combat Dynamics and Technology
The central theme of the deliberations revolved around how the nature of armed conflict is shifting globally. As security paradigms continuously transform, the armed forces must evolve simultaneously to deter and neutralize contemporary threats. The Defence Minister noted that sheer firepower alone cannot guarantee military strength; forces must be backed by advanced technological infrastructure, robust logistics, and the agility to execute missions swiftly and decisively across diverse operational environments.
Highlighting the strategic direction, it was shared that the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is paying special attention to capital acquisitions and budgetary support to meet modern defence requirements. Beyond merely increasing allocations, the Defence Minister emphasized that the prudent and effective utilization of available funds is equally essential. Strategic prioritization must guide expenditures so that critical operational needs receive prompt resources without inefficiency.
Participation by Armed Forces Leadership and Parliamentarians
The consultative session brought together member parliamentarians of the parliamentary committee alongside senior military officers representing the army, navy, and air force. While the full roster of participating lawmakers and commanders was not officially detailed, the interactions focused entirely on tailoring India's defence capabilities to long term strategic goals, fostering inter-service synergy, and embedding innovative technologies within the military framework.
Schedule and Engagements During the Two Day Visit
The Defence Minister had arrived in Jaisalmer on Monday for his two day itinerary. Touching down at the Air Force Station, his convoy proceeded directly to Hotel Fort Rajwada, the primary venue for the official proceedings. Later that evening, at approximately 6:30 pm, he visited the Jaisalmer War Museum to witness the sound and light show honoring the nation's military heritage. Following this, he joined the members of the consultative committee and senior officials for an official dinner hosted at the hotel, where he stayed overnight.
Political Interactions and Departure to Delhi
On Tuesday morning, political engagements preceded the official deliberations at Hotel Fort Rajwada. Local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Kanwraj Singh Chauhan and Deep Singh, called on the Defence Minister to welcome him and discuss regional matters. The consultative committee then convened for an extensive session that reviewed critical defence priorities in detail.
Around 12:30 pm on Tuesday, a group photo session was organized within the hotel premises, joined by Jaisalmer Member of Legislative Assembly Chhotu Singh Bhati and party leader Vikram Singh Nachna. Immediately following the photo session, the Defence Minister departed under tight security arrangements toward the airport, boarding a special aircraft back to New Delhi.
