National Security Advisor Ajit Doval travelled to Hanoi to hold high-level discussions with Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang. The dialogue focused on strengthening existing security frameworks and expanding defence collaboration between the two Asian partners. Both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to maintaining close strategic coordination to safeguard regional peace and shared maritime interests.
Review of Bilateral Defence Initiatives
According to the Embassy of India in Vietnam, the two leaders conducted a thorough evaluation of existing bilateral defence cooperation. General Phan Van Giang and Ajit Doval agreed that India and Vietnam will continue working jointly across security sectors to deepen operational ties. The discussions underlined a shared resolve to reinforce military engagements, technology exchange, and institutional dialogues in response to changing geopolitical realities.
Advancing the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Ajit Doval arrived in Vietnam on Sunday on an official diplomatic mission. The visit carries substantial weight following the elevation of bilateral ties in May of this year to an enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership. This top-tier diplomatic framework is designed to accelerate joint initiatives across national security, defence preparedness, and cross-border commerce. The National Security Advisor's discussions in Hanoi serve as an active step toward operationalising the strategic roadmaps laid out under this pact.
Aiming for 25 Billion Dollars in Annual Trade by 2030
Alongside their security agreements, both nations set a target during their May summit to elevate two-way bilateral commerce to 25 billion US dollars annually by 2030. Expanding maritime safety and defence ties provides a stable foundation for supply chain integration and investment between Indian and Vietnamese markets. Ajit Doval's diplomatic engagements in Hanoi represent an important push to unlock emerging economic pathways and cement long-term stability between the two countries.
