Divya Choudhary, the former jailer of Ajmer Central Jail in Rajasthan, has been arrested by police and remanded into custody at the very prison where she was once posted in a supervisory role. She faces serious criminal allegations of unlawfully taking two female convicts serving life imprisonment out of the prison compound in blatant violation of prison regulations and forcing them to do domestic chores at her personal residence. Following an evasion of arrest that lasted nearly two months, law enforcement officers apprehended her from a residential apartment located in Kota.
Unauthorized Transport in Private Vehicle Without Court Approval
Police investigations have revealed that Divya Choudhary used to transport the two female convicts outside the prison gates in her personal car. According to investigators, there was no court order authorising their movement, nor was there any medical emergency or legitimate official duty associated with taking them out. The allegations state that she forced both prisoners to carry out house cleaning and various household tasks at her private home. Both of these inmates are currently serving life sentences for murder, having been convicted in separate cases involving the killing of their husbands alongside their respective lovers.
Threatening On-Duty Security Guards at the Main Prison Gate
A disturbing dimension of the case involves the alleged intimidation of prison staff posted at the facility entrance. When female security guards on duty raised objections against moving the convicts outside without legal documentation and without mandatory official gate entries, Divya Choudhary reportedly used her authoritative position to silence them. She allegedly warned the gate personnel that they would lose their jobs and threatened them with dire consequences if they interfered. Immediately following this confrontation, she placed both prisoners in her car and drove them away from the premises.
Formal Complaint in July Followed by August 5 FIR Registration
The unauthorized practice came to light when an alert prison guard reported the entire matter to senior departmental authorities in July. Following internal reviews and necessary clearance from the state government, a formal First Information Report was registered against Divya Choudhary on August 5. Taking stern administrative cognizance of the complaint, the authorities placed both Divya Choudhary and her assisting jail guard, Sonia Choudhary, under immediate suspension.
Failure to Join Bikaner Jail, Inmates Rescued from Private Residence
Following their departmental suspension, both Divya Choudhary and Sonia Choudhary were ordered to report to Bikaner Central Jail. Instead of registering their mandatory presence at the Bikaner facility, both women went absconding to evade pending police action. Police teams then conducted a raid at Divya Choudhary's private residence in Ajmer, successfully recovering the two lifers and escorting them back inside the prison. Law enforcement continued their search for the absconding former jailer, eventually tracking her down and arresting her from a flat in Kota after nearly two months on the run.
Remanded by Judicial Magistrate While Co-Accused Remains at Large
Following her arrest, Divya Choudhary was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ajmer, whose court orders directed that she be remanded to judicial custody at Ajmer Central Jail. Meanwhile, her co-accused colleague, jail guard Sonia Choudhary, remains at large as specialized police teams carry out raids at various suspected locations to apprehend her. Ajmer Central Jail has previously been embroiled in major controversies, including an earlier incident involving the murder of dacoit Jagan Gurjar inside the complex. While the final legal determination will emerge through the judicial process, these charges against a senior jail official have placed intense scrutiny on the internal administration and security protocols of the prison system.
