Rajasthan Police have apprehended suspended female jailor Divya Choudhary from her residence in Kota following allegations of abusing her official authority. She stands accused of taking two incarcerated women out of Ajmer Central Jail without securing mandatory departmental clearance and directing them to perform domestic cleaning tasks at her personal residence. The arrest marks a decisive escalation after an administrative inquiry into the breach had earlier triggered her formal suspension.
The July 12 Unauthorized Excursion
The incident dates back to July 12, when Divya Choudhary, while posted at Ajmer Central Jail, orchestrated the unauthorized release of two female inmates identified as Sana and Kiran. The officer bypassed protocol by keeping senior prison authorities entirely uninformed regarding the departure of the incarcerated women. The prisoners were escorted outside the facility specifically to clean her domestic quarters before being returned to their cells hours later. Once the grave security breach surfaced, prison officials immediately launched an inquiry into the matter.
Administrative Suspension and Apprehension in Kota
Following primary findings that established gross misconduct and breach of prison discipline, the state government placed Divya Choudhary under suspension. During the suspension term, she had been posted to Bikaner as her designated headquarters. However, parallel criminal proceedings initiated by the police culminated in a specialized law enforcement team locating and taking her into custody from her residence in Kota.
Search Underway for Absconding Warder Sonia
The investigation also established the direct complicity of jail warder Sonia in aiding the illicit transfer of the inmates. Named as a co-accused in the official police case, the warder has evaded authorities since the inception of the probe and remains on the run. Police teams are presently tracking her movements across multiple suspected locations, confirming that sustained efforts are being deployed to secure her arrest soon.
