A family in Rajasthan's Karauli district has been left shattered after four of its members consumed poison together in the Bairwa neighbourhood of Balauti village under Sapotra subdivision. The parents and their elder son lost their lives in the tragedy, while the younger son is fighting for his life in a critical condition at SMS Hospital in Jaipur.
The Incident Unfolded on Monday Morning
The case came to light around 10 am on Monday. Villagers said the family had been dealing with illness and related hardships for a long time, and the household had sunk into deep depression over the younger son's poor health. That prolonged mental strain is believed to have finally pushed the family toward this devastating step. Police reached the spot as soon as they were informed and launched a detailed investigation.
All Four Drank Poison Together
The four who consumed poison together were identified as 45 year old Ramdayal Bairwa, his 40 year old wife Rajbai, their elder son 25 year old Laxminarayan, and their younger son 23 year old Vijayraj Bairwa, all residents of Balauti village. When their condition suddenly worsened, neighbours rushed them to the hospital in Sapotra. As their state turned critical, doctors first sent them to the hospital in Gangapur City, from where it was decided to refer them onward to Jaipur for further treatment.
Soon after leaving Gangapur City on the way to Jaipur, Rajbai and Laxminarayan died. Their bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Sapotra hospital. Ramdayal, the father, died just before the family reached Jaipur, so his body has been kept in Jaipur itself.
Younger Son Still Battling for His Life
Vijayraj, the youngest member of the family, continues to be treated at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, where his condition remains critical. Family members and villagers are anxiously hoping for his recovery.
What Police Have Found So Far
According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests that Vijayraj, the family's youngest member, had been unwell for a long time, and the entire family had been under severe mental stress because of his illness. Police believe this prolonged stress may have driven the family to take this extreme step, though the exact reasons behind the tragedy will only be confirmed once the investigation is complete.
Not the First Such Tragedy
This is not the only case of a family taking such a drastic step together. Last year, seven members of a single family in Panchkula, Haryana, died by mass suicide after consuming poison, with all the bodies recovered from inside a car. That family, from Dehradun, was under heavy debt and had been struggling with severe financial distress before taking the extreme step.
