Rajasthan's Chief Secretary V. Srinivas arrived in Jodhpur on Saturday and used the visit to take a close look at two of the city's most important institutions, Umaid Hospital and the new building of the Rajasthan High Court. He went to the hospital first, and his convoy then moved on to the court building. Senior administrative and police officers accompanied him for the entire visit.
At the hospital, the Chief Secretary began with the gynaecology outpatient department. From there he moved through the labour room, operation theatre, gynae ICU and HDU, and also visited post-operative wards number one and three. At every stop he questioned the officials present about the treatment being given to patients, the availability of resources and the hospital's day-to-day functioning. He instructed them to keep medical services running without interruption and to ensure patients get better facilities, and stressed that arrangements in every unit need to be monitored constantly so that required resources never run short.
A stop at the newborn care nursery
The Chief Secretary then went to the neonatal intensive care unit, where he inspected both the out-born and in-born nurseries. He asked the staff on duty about the resources and facilities being used to treat and care for newborns, and directed them to keep the treatment system effective at all times and to keep a continuous watch on the arrangements so that no infant's care suffers.
Checking on the High Court's damaged dome
After finishing at Umaid Hospital, the Chief Secretary headed straight to the new building of the Rajasthan High Court. There he examined the structure closely and sought full details of the damage to its dome and the repair work underway. Officials on site presented him a report on the current status of construction and the repair and reconstruction work. The Chief Secretary reviewed the quality of construction and the security arrangements and sought necessary clarifications from officials. The visit also included a discussion on compliance with orders issued by the High Court. He directed officials to carry the repair and reconstruction work forward strictly as per set standards and at a faster pace, so the building can be made fully usable soon.
The officials who accompanied the tour
Additional Chief Secretary Praveen Gupta led a full team of administrative officers who were present throughout the Chief Secretary's visit. District Collector Alok Ranjan, Police Commissioner Anshuman Bhomia, Divisional Commissioner Kamal Shekhawat and Shaheen C, among other officials, were also present during the inspection. Officials briefed the Chief Secretary on the various arrangements in place and on the action plan for the days ahead, so that pending work at both institutions can be completed on time.
