A terrifying road incident unfolded late Sunday night in Rajasthan's Nagaur district when a passenger-laden travel mini bus suddenly caught fire along the Bikaner-Jodhpur bypass. The vehicle was travelling past the local railway crossing when an unexpected technical snag triggered sparks within the moving vehicle. Within moments, thick smoke rapidly filled the passenger cabin, sparking sheer panic and distress among the occupants. Demonstrating exceptional composure, the driver steered the burning bus to the roadside and halted immediately, enabling all 13 passengers to escape unharmed before the flames consumed the entire vehicle.
Sudden Short Circuit Triggers Fire and Cabin Smoke
According to initial details, the travel mini bus was navigating the bypass route during late Sunday hours carrying its passengers toward their destination. Without warning, an electrical short circuit occurred within the bus's internal wiring, generating intense sparks that ignited flammable materials inside. As dense smoke quickly spread across the passenger compartment, fear gripped the travellers, leading to loud cries for help. Given the rapid escalation of the flames, any delay in stopping the vehicle could have trapped the occupants inside a moving inferno.
Driver's Rapid Reaction Prevents a Fatal Tragedy
Amid the unfolding chaos, the bus driver kept his presence of mind and acted decisively without panicking. Realising the severity of the fire, he immediately pulled the mini bus over to a safe spot along the shoulder of the road. As soon as the vehicle stopped, all 13 passengers were quickly helped out to safety. Moments after the evacuation was complete, the fire intensified dramatically, wrapping the entire bus in towering flames. The prompt and level-headed response of the driver averted what could have easily turned into a catastrophic mass-casualty disaster.
Local Youths Rally With Water Pitchers and Buckets
Witnessing the vehicle erupt into flames on the bypass, local bystanders and youths sprang into action without hesitation. Local residents, including Jitendra from Malgaon and advocate Prakash Rar alongside other youths, took charge of emergency firefighting efforts ahead of the fire service's arrival. Rather than standing as spectators, they fetched earthen water pots and buckets from nearby drinking water kiosks and roadside eateries. By continuously splashing water onto the burning structure, the youths successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures along the roadside.
Emergency Teams Extinguish Blaze and Restore Traffic
Upon receiving distress calls, municipal fire tenders and teams from the local police station rushed to the scene. Firefighters quickly deployed hoses and, after a period of intense effort, managed to completely douse the inferno. Local police personnel stepped in to manage the gathered crowds and regulate vehicular movement along the busy bypass corridor to prevent major traffic congestion. While all passengers breathed a profound sigh of relief at their miraculous escape, the incident highlights the critical necessity of periodic vehicle maintenance and routine electrical safety checks.
