A sudden mishap disrupted Congress leader Sachin Pilot's celebratory visit to Tonk in Rajasthan when a car participating in his motorcade caught fire. The incident occurred near the bustling Ghantaghar square, where hundreds of supporters had gathered to greet him during an organized roadshow. Witnesses reported hearing a distinct blast from the vehicle's engine compartment, which was immediately followed by heavy smoke billowing from under the hood. Within moments, visible flames engulfed the front section of the car, triggering momentary panic and chaos among the onlookers.
Quick Public Intervention Averts Major Danger
Upon noticing the flames and rising smoke, nearby supporters and local residents acted swiftly. Bystanders gathered water to douse the burning vehicle, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring cars and commercial establishments in the crowded market. Organizers quickly decoupled and moved the affected car away from the main convoy line to ensure the safety of the procession. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the scene, and normalcy was restored shortly after the prompt intervention.
Celebratory Roadshow Follows Civic Poll Victory
Pilot was visiting the city to lead a thanksgiving roadshow through the primary market area following the Congress party's victory in the municipal council elections. The celebratory rally commenced at the Chhawani intersection, where Congress leaders Rajendra Goyal and Akbar Khan formally welcomed him. The newly elected municipal council chairman Mayank Goyal and Congress leader Hansraj Choudhary were also present alongside Pilot throughout the tour.
Pilot's Political Bastion and Electoral Math
As the procession moved from Chhawani toward Ghantaghar square, party workers and local residents lined the route to extend their greetings before the vehicle breakdown briefly interrupted the celebrations. Tonk remains a recognized political stronghold for Pilot. In the recently contested 59 municipal council wards, the Congress party secured 32 seats on its own. By gaining the crucial support of 6 independent councillors, the party consolidated a total of 38 votes, ultimately paving the way for Congress candidate Mayank Goyal to claim the chairman position.
