The skies over Rajasthan along the western frontier are witnessing intense aerial maneuvers as the second edition of the multinational air exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 gets underway from Jodhpur Airforce Station. Hosted by the Indian Air Force under the operational theme 'Power in Partnership', the exercise brings together air arms from multiple partner nations to evaluate strategic capabilities, tactical readiness, and joint operational cohesion. Combat aircraft are actively operating across designated expansive airspace blocks to execute complex joint aerial drills.
Frontline Indian Air Force Assets Take to the Skies
The Indian Air Force has fielded a comprehensive array of its premier frontline combat platforms for the exercise. The operational fleet features the Su-30 MKI, Rafale, MiG-29, and Jaguar alongside the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas. Operating across varying operational profiles, these aircraft are conducting joint tactical maneuvers and precision strike drills. The deployment demonstrates the operational integration of different platform generations into a unified combat network capable of executing rapid tactical responses.
American F-35A Aircraft Arrive Directly From Japan
Participating foreign contingents have deployed some of their most sophisticated combat machinery to Rajasthan. Units from the United States Pacific Air Forces sent F-35A Lightning II fighters, which flew directly to Jodhpur from Misawa Airbase in Japan. Strategic aerial refueling aircraft accompanied the detachment to support long-range transits and sustained exercise sorties. In addition, France has brought Rafale fighter jets, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is participating with its F-16 fighters. Crews from these nations are coordinating closely with Indian pilots in mission planning rooms and in the air to execute integrated multinational operations.
Sharpening Interoperability and Joint Tactical Operations
The primary mandate of Tarang Shakti 2026 goes beyond a demonstration of aerial speed and firepower. The training framework concentrates specifically on building deep interoperability among disparate operational doctrines and communication systems. Daily sorties feature coordinated air defense, counter-air maneuvers, joint tactical flight formations, and complex mid-air refueling procedures. By practicing unified mission planning and rapid response scenarios, the participating forces are refining their capability to function seamlessly alongside one another during combined international operations.
Suryakiran Aerobatics Team Display Slated for Air Force Day
Amid the tactical engagements, a dedicated public aerial demonstration is scheduled for October 8 to mark Indian Air Force Day. The service's aerobatic demonstration squadron, the Suryakiran Aerobatics Team, will perform specialized routines over Jodhpur using Hawk aircraft. The display will showcase close-formation flying, dynamic cross-overs, and synchronized tactical maneuvers, serving as a signature centerpiece during the multinational exercise program.
