Intense political maneuvering and internal power struggles have broken out across several civic bodies in Rajasthan following the declaration of ward councillor election results. Political parties and diverse social groups are actively locking horns to capture the prestigious chairperson and mayoral posts. From Hanumangarh to Rajsamand and the state capital Jaipur, local politics has seen rapid developments, including road blockades, police detentions, allegations of councillor confinement, and official party candidate declarations.
Police Book Two Dozen Protesters After Hanumangarh Road Blockade
In Hanumangarh, political friction over the position of civic council chairperson triggered severe street unrest. Supporters of the local legislator staged an aggressive demonstration against state government actions, completely surrounding the district collectorate and blocking vehicular traffic on major roads. The agitating supporters alleged that newly elected councillors were facing harassment and intense political coercion. Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly to restore public order following the disruption. The Junction police station registered a formal case against around two dozen individuals for obstructing road traffic and causing public disorder. Officers also took several individuals into custody at the scene, and police personnel are actively interrogating both the detainees and named suspects to investigate the circumstances surrounding the agitation.
Kumawat Community Protests Alleged Councillor Confinement in Rajsamand
Meanwhile, in Rajsamand Municipal Council, controversy regarding the alleged political confinement of elected representatives reached the office of the district superintendent of police. Members of the Kumawat community, alongside families of victorious councillors, gathered outside the police facility to register their protest and submit a formal written complaint. The delegation alleged that several councillors belonging to their community had been completely unreachable for the preceding two days, with families unable to locate or meet them. They demanded immediate arrangements for direct meetings with the missing councillors. During the demonstration, some participants raised slogans against Rajsamand legislator Deepti Maheshwari. Additional Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pareek intervened, holding discussions with the protesters and reassuring them that appropriate lawful action would be taken. Concurrently, a video showing Bharatiya Janata Party councillors singing songs also surfaced amid the unfolding developments.
Caste Equations and Factional Rifts over the Chairperson Seat
The political landscape within the 45 wards of the Rajsamand Municipal Council has become increasingly complex following the distribution of seats. In the election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 27 wards, the Congress won 14 wards, and independent candidates clinched 4 wards. Crucially, among the 27 victorious Bharatiya Janata Party councillors, 9 representatives hail from the Kumawat community. Citing this numerical strength, community representatives voiced a strong demand that the municipal chairperson post be allocated to an elected member from their community. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership proposed Anita Paliwal as its chosen candidate for the chairperson post, fueling further discontent. In response to this decision and the suspected confinement of representatives, the community convened an emergency meeting and organized a pedestrian protest march across the city.
Congress Officially Names Sunita Mahawar as Jaipur Mayoral Candidate
While tensions simmered in Rajsamand and Hanumangarh, political actions gained momentum in the capital city of Jaipur regarding the formation of the municipal corporation board. The Congress party clarified its strategy by formally declaring its official candidate for the coveted post of mayor. Submitting her formal symbol nomination form, Sunita Mahawar staked her claim for the mayoral office. Several other elected councillors accompanied her and visibly demonstrated their backing on the spot. Following this submission, the Jaipur district Congress leadership released an official announcement confirming Sunita Mahawar as the party candidate. The presence of supporting councillors alongside Mahawar is viewed as a crucial step as political formations finalize their preparations to govern the urban civic body.
