The monsoon has turned active across Rajasthan, and the weather department has issued a fresh bulletin warning of intense storms and heavy rainfall across several districts. According to the Jaipur meteorological centre, monsoon activity is picking up rapidly in the eastern and northern parts of the state, prompting warnings of thunder, lightning and heavy rain for Jaipur, Sikar, Dausa, Tonk and Didwana-Kuchaman districts. Wind speeds in these areas could touch 40 to 80 kilometres per hour. The administration has urged residents to take shelter in safe locations during bad weather and to stay well away from weak structures.
Temperatures drop, similar weather expected for two to three days
The latest report from the weather department notes that the activation of a new weather system has triggered a sharp fall in temperatures across the state. Barring a few pockets of western Rajasthan, cloud cover has spread over most districts. Jaipur and its surrounding areas have seen intermittent rain since the morning, leading to waterlogging-like conditions in several spots. Meteorologists say this pattern is likely to continue for the next two to three days, with some locations potentially seeing heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Orange alert in Jaipur, fears of waterlogging in low-lying areas
An orange alert has been issued for Jaipur district, warning of intense thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain. Sudden, strong winds are expected in the city and its neighbouring rural belts, with speeds recorded between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour. This shift is expected to cause waterlogging in the city's low-lying areas. Residents have been clearly advised not to stand under electric poles or trees during the storm and rain.
Orange alert in Sikar, yellow alert in Jhunjhunu
In the Shekhawati region's Sikar district, the weather department has issued an orange alert, forecasting moderate to intense rainfall. In neighbouring Jhunjhunu district, a yellow alert is in effect, warning of strong storms with light to moderate rain. This sudden shift has pulled temperatures down by 3 to 4 degrees in both districts, offering residents considerable relief from the intense heat.
Dausa and Tonk told farmers to protect harvested crops
Weather conditions have also turned sharply in Dausa and Tonk districts. The weather department has issued both orange and yellow alerts for these two districts, with sudden gusty winds of 40 to 60 kilometres per hour possible in some spots. Given this, agricultural experts have advised farmers to move their harvested crops to safe locations immediately to avoid damage from the approaching storms and rain.
Western Rajasthan spared for now as Bikaner and Jodhpur stay calmer
Unlike eastern Rajasthan, the western districts of Bikaner and Jodhpur are likely to see mostly clear skies or partial cloud cover for now. Some parts of the Jodhpur division could witness a mild dust storm, but rainfall activity there remains far lower compared with eastern Rajasthan. Overall, while the eastern and northern parts of the state are bracing for stronger storms and rain, the western region continues to see relatively normal conditions.
