Administrative preparations for the upcoming 2026 Urban Local Body Elections in Rajasthan's Jaipur district have reached an advanced stage. Under the supervision of the District Election Officer (Municipal), the formal scrutiny of nomination papers across 690 wards spanning 19 urban local bodies has been successfully completed. Following a rigorous evaluation of all 4,868 nomination papers submitted by aspiring candidates, election officials rejected 1,380 forms due to technical flaws, incomplete documentation, and non-compliance with statutory requirements. A total of 3,488 nomination papers were declared valid, leaving 3,366 candidates officially valid and eligible to remain in the electoral race.
Scrutiny Impact and Electoral Scenario in Jaipur Municipal Corporation
The political contest in the main Jaipur Municipal Corporation, which encompasses 150 wards, has intensified considerably following the completion of the scrutiny phase. Out of all the applications received within the municipal corporation boundaries, authorities rejected 338 nomination papers for failing to satisfy mandatory technical criteria. A total of 1,040 papers were cleared as valid, resulting in 1,007 candidates ultimately securing their eligibility to contest the polls. The rejection of 338 candidate forms has significantly altered campaign calculations for major political parties as well as independent contenders across several key electoral contests.
Municipal-Wise Scrutiny Breakdown and Rejected Nominations
The post-scrutiny picture has also become clearer across various municipal councils and municipalities throughout Jaipur district. Shahpura Municipal Council recorded the highest number of rejected nominations at 194 papers, while 339 forms were found valid, confirming 326 candidates as validly nominated. In Chaksu, 129 nominations were rejected, leaving 213 candidates in the fray. Furthermore, scrutiny led to the rejection of 89 nomination papers in Chomu, 69 in Manoharpur, 68 in Phagi, 62 in Naraina, 61 in Bagru, 59 in Sambhar, 54 in Khejroli, 50 in Jamwaramgarh, 48 in Dudu, 37 in Vatika, 33 in Kaladera, 32 in Bassi, and 29 in Kishangarh-Renwal. Additionally, 12 nomination papers were rejected in Jobner, 11 in Phulera, and 5 in Kanota.
Withdrawal Deadline and Symbol Allocation Timeline
With the verification of nomination papers concluded, election authorities and political contestants have shifted their focus to the candidacy withdrawal phase. Candidates who wish to withdraw their nominations have been given until 3:00 PM on September 3 to submit their formal requests. The final lineup of contesting candidates will be officially published after the 3:00 PM cutoff on September 3. Following this, the District Election Department will allocate official election symbols to all eligible candidates on September 4, paving the way for full-scale election campaigning to commence across all 19 local bodies.
