A 21-year-old married woman died under suspicious circumstances after undergoing surgery at a private hospital in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, triggering outrage among her family and neighbours. Relatives allege that the woman was repeatedly given blood and plasma during and after the operation, yet when her condition suddenly worsened at night, no doctor or staff member could be found at the hospital. Furious family members staged a protest outside the hospital and demanded that operating doctor Sameeta Soni be booked under serious sections including murder and arrested immediately. The family has declared that they will not allow a post mortem examination until action is taken against the doctor.
Admitted for a Small Growth, Surgery Followed a Day Later
The woman, identified as Sukh Divya, a resident of Makdo village, was married to Yogesh Kumar. According to her relatives, Divya had complained of a small growth in her uterus, for which she was admitted to Apex Sky Line Hospital in Jhunjhunu city on July 4. After examining her, doctor Sameeta Soni recommended surgery. Following her admission, Divya was put on glucose and her food and water intake was stopped completely to prepare her for the operation. The next day, on July 5, her surgery was carried out at around 2 pm.
Family members allege that during the surgery and immediately afterwards, the hospital repeatedly asked for blood and plasma. In total, Divya was given four units of blood and two units of plasma, a detail that itself alarmed her relatives. She was brought out of the operation theatre at around 3:30 pm once the surgery was completed. By around 7 pm, hospital staff reassured the family that Divya's condition was normal, that she would soon be shifted to the ward, and that she would likely be discharged the following morning.
Condition Deteriorated at Night, No Doctor Was Present
That reassurance did not last long. Relatives allege that when they went to check on Divya at around 8:45 pm, no doctor or staff member was present at the hospital. At that time, she was foaming at the mouth and appeared to be in a critical state. Panicked family members raised an alarm and struggled for a considerable time to get hospital staff to respond. It was only around 9:45 pm that a doctor finally arrived. After examining her, the family was told that her lungs had filled with fluid and that she needed to be referred to Jaipur immediately.
No Hospital Ambulance Available, Another Had to Be Arranged
According to the family, their troubles did not end with the referral decision. They allege that the hospital's own ambulance was not made available on time, wasting precious minutes. Left with no choice, the family had to call another ambulance from Khaitan Hospital to transport Divya to Jaipur. By the time she reached Jaipur, doctors there declared her dead. The family claims that doctors in Jaipur attributed her death to excessive bleeding.
Brother-in-Law Alleges Doctor Never Checked on Her After Surgery
Divya's jeth (elder brother-in-law), Lokesh, alleged that doctor Sameeta Soni, who had performed the operation, did not come to see the patient even once after the surgery. He said that if bleeding had been controlled and treatment given in time, Divya's life could likely have been saved. Lokesh also accused the hospital administration of negligence and of concealing the seriousness of her condition from the family. The family maintains that had they been informed of her true condition in time, they could have moved her to another major hospital earlier.
Protest Outside Hospital, Family Demands FIR and Arrest
As news of Divya's death spread, angry relatives and villagers gathered outside Apex Sky Line Hospital and staged a strong protest. They demanded that an FIR be registered against doctor Sameeta Soni under serious sections, including murder, and that she be arrested without delay. The family alleges that instead of taking action, police who arrived at the scene tried to pacify and pressure them into calling off the protest, which only deepened their anger. As of now, the family is standing firm on its demands and has made clear that it will not permit a post mortem until action is taken against the doctor.
DSP's Attempt at Mediation Fails
Given the seriousness of the case, DSP Gopal Singh Dhaka personally reached the spot and tried to broker an agreement between the hospital administration and the family, but the talks did not reach any resolution. Meanwhile, Divya's husband, Yogesh Kumar, went to the Kotwali police station and filed a report demanding action. The hospital administration has not issued any official statement on the matter so far, further fuelling the family's frustration.
