In a major breakthrough in a high-profile robbery and murder case originating from Rajkot, Gujarat, the Rajasthan Police successfully intercepted and recovered stolen gold and silver valued at approximately 1.55 crore rupees. Following the tragic shooting and killing of a refinery employee in Gujarat, the perpetrators had managed to cross over into the neighboring state of Rajasthan with the loot. Upon receiving an urgent alert from the Gujarat Police, security was immediately tightened across the border districts of Rajasthan. Intensive vehicle checking operations and checkpoints were established in both Sirohi and Udaipur districts to track down the suspects. During this coordinated statewide vigil, the Udaipur Police intercepted a vehicle on Thursday morning and detained two occupants along with the entire stolen consignment of precious metals.
Valuable Gold and Silver Recovered
According to police details, the total estimated market value of the recovered goods stands at approximately 1 crore 55 lakh 7 thousand rupees. The seizure includes around 946 grams of pure gold and 2.870 kilograms of silver powder that the culprits had packed away during the heist. The Udaipur Police have formally communicated the details of this successful operation to the Rajkot Police department. A team from Gujarat is expected to arrive in Udaipur shortly to formally take the suspects into custody along with the recovered valuables for further legal proceedings. Udaipur Superintendent of Police Dr. Amruta Duhan has been overseeing the official disclosures regarding this swift law enforcement action.
Refinery Employee Shot Dead During Heist
The shocking incident unfolded on the evening of October 14 within the urban limits of Rajkot, Gujarat. Employee Laljibhai Sarpara was exiting the refinery premises of Tanvi Exports India Limited, situated in the Aji GIDC industrial zone, when two unidentified criminals targeted him and attempted to snatch the bag he was carrying. When the employee put up resistance against the attackers, one of the culprits drew a firearm and shot him. Seriously injured by the gunshot, Laljibhai was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries during medical care. Following the fatal shooting, both assailants fled the scene with the bag containing gold and silver powder.
Breakdown of the Looted Valuables
Law enforcement records indicate that the stolen consignment comprised approximately 946 grams of gold, valued at roughly 1 crore 48 lakh 90 thousand rupees. In addition to the gold, the robbers made off with 2.870 kilograms of silver powder, assessed to be worth around 6 lakh 17 thousand rupees. Combined together, the total worth of the looted gold and silver amounts to nearly 1 crore 55 lakh 7 thousand rupees. Armed with such a massive quantity of precious materials, the suspects immediately fled across state lines toward Rajasthan. Prompt information sharing by the Gujarat Police triggered a massive mobilization and vehicle inspection drive across the border areas of Rajasthan.
Checkpoints Set Up in Sirohi and Udaipur
Alerted by reports that the fleeing suspects were heading in the direction of Rajasthan, security forces in Sirohi and Udaipur were placed on maximum alert. Comprehensive vehicle screening and checkpoints were set up across both districts to monitor all transit routes. During these intensive operations, the Sirohi Police initially intercepted one vehicle. Shortly after, during morning checkpoints on Thursday, the Udaipur Police successfully cornered and seized a second vehicle. Two suspects traveling inside the vehicle in Udaipur were promptly detained, and the stolen gold and silver were successfully recovered from their possession. This swift action was the direct result of the high alert and rigorous checking enforced at the Rajasthan border in the wake of the Gujarat crime.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The successful operation conducted in Udaipur has been formally communicated to the Rajkot Police authorities, and a police team from Gujarat is anticipated to reach Udaipur soon. This will facilitate the formal transfer of the detained accused and the seized gold and silver into the custody of the Gujarat Police for further investigation. Udaipur Superintendent of Police Dr. Amruta Duhan provided key insights into the operation. Investigators will now focus on uncovering the precise roles played by each suspect in the murder and robbery, as well as tracing the exact route they took to cross into Rajasthan after executing the crime.
