Seven Years After Vikram's Murder Over His Love Marriage, Rajasthan Court Sends Five to Life in Jail

An additional sessions court in Chirawa, Rajasthan, has sentenced five people to rigorous life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50,000 each, nearly seven years after Vikram was killed over his love marriage.

Justice has finally arrived in the seven-year-old Vikram murder case from Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan. The Additional Sessions Court in Chirawa has sentenced five accused to rigorous life imprisonment in this widely followed case, along with a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of the convicts. The verdict brought major relief to a grieving family that had waited years for justice.

A Love Marriage That Sparked Deadly Resentment

According to Additional Public Prosecutor Manoj Bajaj, the root of this entire case lay in a love marriage. Vikram had married Anita Devi, a resident of Hamiri, on 15 May 2018 in a love marriage. Anita's brother-in-law, Jogendra, was deeply unhappy with the match and the resentment kept simmering inside him. He eventually plotted to eliminate Vikram along with his father Indraj, mother Mahendri Devi, wife Rachna Devi, nephew Jalesingh, and Ramsingh, a resident of Hamiri Kalan.

Seven Years of Investigation and Trial Before the Verdict

After the complaint was filed, police launched a detailed investigation, gathering evidence and recording witness statements before filing a strong chargesheet against the accused in court. The trial then went on for years, during which the prosecution presented several key witnesses and documentary evidence before the court. After weighing every aspect of the case, the Additional Sessions Court in Chirawa found Jogendra, Mahendri Devi, Rachna Devi, Jalesingh and Ramsingh guilty, sentencing all five to rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each.

One Accused Acquitted, One Died During the Trial

Another named accused in the case, Ankit Kaswan, son of Satyapal and a resident of Nandrampura (Mandrela), was acquitted by the court, which gave him the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, Indraj, the father of main accused Jogendra, died during the course of the trial, which brought proceedings against him to an end. Of the seven people named in the case, five were convicted, one was acquitted, and proceedings against one ended due to his death.
