In a bizarre and daring night heist, burglars in Bihar's Aurangabad district silenced a guard dog by taping its mouth shut before looting cash and valuables worth lakhs from a residential home. The incident took place in Bharwar village under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station, triggering widespread concern among local residents regarding security in the area.
Rain and Cooler Noise Provided Cover for Burglars
The targeted house belongs to Alok Singh, son of Shiv Kumar Singh. According to the victim, heavy rainfall combined with the loud hum of an operating room cooler inside the house masked the sounds of the break-in. Taking advantage of the weather and ambient noise around midnight, unknown intruders secretly breached the premises. Their first step was to approach the family's pet dog tied in the courtyard and tightly wrap adhesive tape around its mouth to keep it from barking or alerting the household.
Locks Broken, Jewellery and Cash Ransacked
At the time of the crime, Alok Singh and his wife were sleeping in a separate room. Other family members were away: their children were visiting Singh's sister for the Rakshabandhan festival, while his parents and niece were staying with relatives. Finding the home sparsely occupied, the thieves acted deliberately, breaking open the door locks of three rooms. Once inside, they broke into two Godrej almirahs and two iron trunks, scattering domestic items across the floors.
According to Singh's statement, the intruders stole gold and silver jewelry estimated to be worth between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh, along with Rs 40,000 in cash stored inside a trunk. The burglary was discovered early the next morning when the couple woke up and found their home ransacked and the dog's mouth taped shut.
Villagers Gather as Demand for Night Patrols Grows
As news of the theft spread, a large group of villagers gathered at the house. The fact that criminals executed such a robbery in the center of the village created an atmosphere of fear among residents. Social worker and prospective Ora Panchayat candidate Vikram Kumar Singh alias Raja visited the spot to console the affected family. He urged law enforcement agencies to take swift measures to identify the culprits and called for increased night patrolling in all villages under the Mufassil police station, noting that thieves tend to become more active during the monsoon season.
Police Register FIR and Launch Investigation
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Mufassil police station arrived at the scene with forces to examine the area and gather forensic evidence. Mufassil Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been officially registered based on the statement provided by Alok Singh. Police officials stated that active investigations are underway to trace and arrest the perpetrators.
