As the Hindu month of Bhadwa begins in Rajasthan, devotion to the folk deity Baba Ramdev spreads across the state. Every year, lakhs of devotees travel to the famous Ramdevra shrine in Jaisalmer to pay their respects, but anyone unable to make that long journey has another option much closer to home, a temple right on the outskirts of Ajmer.
A 250-year-old shrine on the Pushkar road
Located on the road connecting Ajmer to Pushkar, this Ramdev temple is said to be around 250 years old. It is known as the temple of Panch Gaon Ke Dhooni Wale Ramdev Ji. For generations, it has served as a major centre of religious faith not just for the city of Ajmer but for people living in the surrounding rural areas as well.
Grand jagran and bhajan sandhya during Bhadwa
According to the temple's priest, several events are held here through the month of Bhadwa. A large jagran and bhajan sandhya are organised at the temple, drawing thousands of devotees not only from across Rajasthan but from other places too. During this period, the entire temple complex is transformed by devotional music, the glow of lit lamps and chants of jaikaras. On Baba's Doj day, flags arrive at the temple from several different places to be offered there.
Multiple deities under one roof
The priest says the temple complex also houses idols of Bhagwan Khatu Shyam Ji, Radha-Krishna and the Ram Darbar alongside Baba Ramdev. There is also a grand six-foot-tall, south-facing idol of Hanuman Ji at the site. Having so many deities to worship in a single complex gives devotees a sense of spiritual peace and a deep religious experience.
How to reach the temple
The temple stands around 7 kilometres from Ajmer railway station on Pushkar Road, and is easily accessible by bus, tempo, auto or e-rickshaw. Anyone travelling to Ajmer on a religious trip is encouraged to visit this temple as well. Its ancient faith, peaceful surroundings and grand temple complex make it a special draw for devotees and tourists alike.
