A 17-year-old girl studying in class 12 died after jumping from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in Udaipur district, Rajasthan. The entire sequence, from her walking into the building to her fatal jump, was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside a nearby house, and police are now going through that footage as part of their inquiry.
She Went Straight From School to the Building
She was enrolled in class 12 at a private school, and by all accounts had been attending her classes as usual right up to that day. Instead of heading home once school got over, she rode straight to the under-construction building on her scooter, a detour from her normal routine that no one around her seemed to notice at the time. She parked the scooter outside and walked in on her own. She then climbed all the way up to the fourth floor of the structure and jumped from there, her body striking a platform on the building on the way down before she hit the ground. The loud sound of the fall drew people from the neighbourhood, who rushed to the spot within moments. The injured girl was first rushed to a nearby hospital, but given how critical her condition was, doctors referred her onward to Udaipur for advanced treatment. She died there while undergoing treatment.
She Told Workers She Had Come Back for a Ball
The station house officer who reached the scene afterward gave a fuller account of how the last few minutes unfolded. He said the girl arrived at the under-construction building on her scooter, parked it outside, and started walking in without drawing much attention. When labourers working at the site tried to stop her from going further, she told them that a ball had gone inside and she was only going in to retrieve it, an explanation that satisfied them enough to let her pass. Within moments, she had gone straight up to the fourth floor and jumped. It was the same labourers who alerted the police once they realised what had happened, and officers who reached the spot had her rushed to hospital. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment in Udaipur.
The Note That Has Deepened the Mystery
A letter recovered from her scooter has only deepened the confusion around why she took this step. In it, she had written that her parents were not at fault, adding, "I love you papa mummy." The note absolves her family of any blame but offers no explanation for what actually drove her to the building that afternoon, leaving investigators with a written message but no clear motive.
Police and School Say There Were No Warning Signs
Police said the exact reason behind the suicide has not been established yet, and the girl's family members are currently still at the hospital in Udaipur, coming to terms with the loss. The school administration, for its part, said the girl had been studying normally and that there had been no sign or suspicion of any distress in her behaviour, adding that they too were shocked by what had happened.
A Similar Case Surfaced in Bengaluru a Week Earlier
Just a week before this incident, a shocking case had come to light in Bengaluru, Karnataka, where a class 7 student attempted suicide by hanging. Before taking the step, the boy had informed his sister about what he was about to do.
