A horrifying incident of violent crime has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, where a 16-year-old schoolgirl was murdered under suspicious circumstances and buried in an agricultural field to erase evidence. The incident occurred in Anurodhpur Gotia village within the jurisdictional limits of the Aliganj police station. The crime was uncovered after police detained the victim's uncle on suspicion and subjected him to detailed interrogation, leading to the identification of the burial site and subsequent recovery of the body.
Exhumation Conducted Under Executive Magistrate Supervision
Following the disclosures made during questioning, the police administration initiated legal procedures to exhume the remains. The accused uncle, identified as Jaiprakash, admitted to digging a pit in his own field to bury the body. Upon receiving formal clearance from the District Magistrate, an exhumation operation was launched on Tuesday afternoon. The excavation was executed in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Deepti Pal and a specialized forensic team. After extensive digging, the victim's body was successfully extracted from deep beneath the ground.
Dispute Stemming from Suspected Relationship
The deceased teenager has been identified as Lata, a Class 10 student and daughter of Prempal, originally hailing from the Hafizganj area. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the family harbored strong suspicions regarding a romantic relationship between Lata and a local youth from the village. This issue had reportedly caused persistent friction and anger within the household. During interrogation, Jaiprakash claimed that he spotted Lata with the youth on the night of 28 July, triggering a heated confrontation that ultimately led to her murder and covert burial.
Forensic Examination and Panel Autopsy
Forensic experts meticulously examined the exhumation site and gathered vital physical and scientific evidence. Following the completion of the inquest proceedings (panchnama), the body was transported to Bareilly for a formal autopsy. Police officials confirmed that the postmortem examination will be conducted by a specialized panel of medical doctors accompanied by full video recording to conclusively establish the precise cause and timeline of death. Further legal charges will be framed once the autopsy report is finalized.
Victim's Father and Relatives Absconding
Adding a crucial dimension to the investigation, police discovered that the victim's father, Prempal, along with several other family members, had fled their home following the incident. Law enforcement teams have launched a search to trace the missing relatives to determine whether they played any active role in the murder or in the concealment of the crime scene. The Circle Officer (CO) confirmed that Aliganj police acted promptly upon receiving information, recovered the body in the presence of an executive magistrate, and are proceeding with strict legal action.
