A sharp dispute has broken out between local residents and administrative authorities in the Gharsana area of Sri Ganganagar district over the designation of a Gram Panchayat headquarters. Widespread resentment has gathered momentum against an administrative draft proposing to shift the established seat of local governance away from 3 JM and designate 1 NWM as the new headquarters instead. Viewing the move as arbitrary and detached from ground reality, agitated villagers have issued an explicit warning, asserting that they will enforce a total boycott of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections if the administration refuses to heed their demands.
Disregard of Population Realities Cited by Locals
Those rallying against the move have grounded their objections firmly in demographic data and public convenience. Residents argue that deciding where a Gram Panchayat headquarters operates must primarily depend on population density and logistical accessibility for the majority of the population. Presenting comparative figures, local villagers pointed out that 3 JM has a recorded population exceeding 1300, whereas the proposed new centre, 1 NWM, houses only around 757 residents.
Given this clear difference, community members maintain that taking the status away from a significantly larger locality like 3 JM to hand it over to an area with nearly half the population is entirely unjustified. A governance centre located in a larger settlement ensures that public welfare initiatives, developmental projects, and day-to-day civic documentation directly serve the maximum possible number of residents without unnecessary administrative friction.
Daily Inconvenience and Administrative Hurdles
Local residents have formally raised their objections, maintaining that official planning completely overlooked everyday practicalities. Under the proposed relocation, over 1300 inhabitants of 3 JM would be forced to travel elsewhere for minor paperwork, certificate issuance, verification processes, and participation in panchayat deliberations. Residents pointed out that compelling a majority population to commute for routine administrative work wastes daily wages and hours, while also threatening to slow down the pace of ongoing development works.
Accusing the administration of issuing directives without examining local needs, the community has formed a unified front. People from across sections of the village have joined hands to ensure collective pressure is mounted on authorities to withdraw the relocation plan before it takes permanent administrative effect.
Firm Resolve to Boycott Forthcoming Panchayat Polls
Determined to protect their civic interests, the residents of 3 JM have adopted a decisive stance against both district authorities and the state government. They have made it clear that preserving 3 JM as the panchayat headquarters is a matter of administrative fairness and public entitlement. They cautioned that if their demand is dismissed, the entire village will abstain from exercising its franchise in the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, noting that participating in the voting exercise loses its meaning when the administration ignores public convenience.
Immediate Review and Withdrawal of Draft Demanded
The protesting villagers have called upon administrative officials to maintain the status quo by keeping 3 JM as the active Gram Panchayat headquarters and initiating a transparent review of the recent relocation file. Emphasising that democratic administration requires respect for public sentiment, they insisted that the flawed proposal be scrapped immediately. Community representatives affirmed that their peaceful yet steadfast mobilisation will continue until an official resolution is issued, warning that unresolved delays could escalate public discontent further.
