While most young individuals at 21 are busy figuring out the early steps of their careers, Hemendra Kumar from Andhra Pradesh's YSR Kadapa district has already carved out a notable footprint on the international industrial map. Taking charge of Frankfurt-based rail vehicle and engineering outfit Zebrold IHL, the young technologist has developed an ultra-modern high-speed train engineered to operate at an impressive speed of 360 kilometers per hour. His technical ambition and operational drive have quickly caught the attention of the global rail transportation industry.
Setting Up Manufacturing Foundations in Frankfurt
The enterprise led by Hemendra focuses on manufacturing passenger trains, rail coaches, spare components, sophisticated signaling systems, and comprehensive railway infrastructure. Hemendra specifically chose Germany as his primary production hub after identifying that the region offered premium automotive and industrial parts at remarkably cost-effective rates. Leveraging this precision engineering ecosystem, the venture aims to introduce next-generation engineering paradigms into rail transit.
To execute its orders, the company relies on contract manufacturing facilities located across Germany. Once assembled, the rail units are shipped worldwide using massive cargo containers to meet international logistics demands. International projects are already underway, including active work on a dedicated rail initiative for Cape Town, South Africa. Alongside this venture, Zebrold has strategically focused on expanding its advanced railway offerings and equipment into Australia.
Rapid Commercial Scaling with Two Years of Experience
Hemendra entered this highly complex sector with only 2 years of professional background in railway design. His commercial trajectory, however, moved remarkably fast: he founded the company in Germany 11 months ago and successfully transitioned to full-scale commercial manufacturing just 4 months ago. Although assembly remains anchored in Germany, the company manages its engineering work through 5 dedicated design centers across the globe.
Crucially, two of these specialized design hubs are located in India's leading technology centers, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. By establishing high-end research infrastructure locally, Hemendra has intentionally created opportunities for domestic engineering talent, ensuring young technical professionals contribute directly to export-grade global rail systems.
Next Horizon: Lightweight Autonomous Trains and Domestic Rollout
Looking toward future mobility requirements, Zebrold IHL is currently channeling resources into the development of ultra-lightweight and fully driverless trains. These automated transit systems are envisioned to meet the demands of urban and regional networks that require elevated energy efficiency and automated precision.
Beyond global expansion, Hemendra maintains a clear goal of introducing state-of-the-art German railway technology to his home state, aiming to deliver significantly improved transportation networks to local commuters. Progressing from Kadapa to the forefront of German manufacturing at such an early stage, his path represents a compelling blueprint for young Indian entrepreneurs pursuing global scale.
