Sagar Salwan, a young man from Bagaha in Bihar's West Champaran district, walked away from a stable engineering job to chase a career in modeling, and that decision has now paid off in a big way. At a state level beauty pageant held at PNM Mall in Patna, Sagar Salwan was crowned Mister Face of Bihar, giving his home district plenty to celebrate.

A six round battle against more than 200 contestants

The state level beauty pageant contest took place on Thursday, 28 May, at PNM Mall in Patna. More than 200 participants from across the state took part, competing through six demanding rounds. Judges evaluated the contestants on multiple parameters, including their modeling skills and mental ability, in every round. By the end of the contest, three faces from West Champaran stood out as winners, Sagar Salwan took the Mister Face of Bihar crown, Sonal Jha was named Miss Bihar, and Anjali Kushwaha became Mrs Bihar.

School in Bagaha, intermediate in Motihari, then straight to a diploma

Sagar's educational journey took an unconventional turn early on. He completed his tenth grade at Sun Rise Public School in Bagaha 02 block, then went to Arfa International School in Motihari for his intermediate studies. Instead of pursuing a graduation degree, he chose to go directly for a diploma and enrolled at the Institute of Technology and Management College in Gorakhpur.

From Surat to Nepal, a brief stint as an engineer

After finishing his diploma, Sagar got an opportunity to work as an engineer at the Laxmipati Saree Production Factory in Surat. After working there for a few months, he switched jobs and took charge as a junior engineer at the Himalaya Sugar Factory in Sirha, Nepal. However, he did not stay long there either, leaving that job after just 6 to 7 months.

He quit his job to give modeling his full attention

Once he left the job in Nepal, Sagar decided to commit himself entirely to modeling. He spent close to two years grooming himself for the field. That effort paid off in 2026, when he won the Mister Face of Champaran title at a district level beauty pageant contest organized by The Spotlight. That win opened the door for him to compete at the state level.

From a wildcard entry to Mister Face of Bihar

On 28 May 2026, at the state level beauty pageant contest organized by I-GlAM at PNM Mall in Patna, Sagar was given a wildcard entry. Competing against roughly 200 participants selected from every district of the state across six rounds, he built a lead in every round, reached the final, and eventually claimed the Mister Face of Bihar title. Following this big win, Sagar is now preparing to showcase himself at the national level and hopes to achieve a lot more in the world of modeling.

His father is a chief engineer, his mother a homemaker

Sagar's father, Pramod Salwan, works as a chief engineer at the sugar factory in Bagaha, while his mother, Jagriti Salwan, is a homemaker.

What this means for you

  • Across India: This story shows that modeling and pageant contests are increasingly becoming structured career avenues for young people, with pathways running from district level events up to state and national platforms.
  • In West Champaran and Bagaha: Sagar Salwan's win is likely to encourage other young people in the district who want to pursue modeling as a career alongside or instead of conventional study and jobs.

Inspiration & Lessons

  • The courage to leave a comfortable job: Despite holding stable engineering jobs in Surat and Nepal, Sagar chose to leave them and pursue his real passion for modeling.
  • Patience over shortcuts: After quitting his job, he did not rush onto a big stage but spent nearly two years grooming himself for the field.
  • Starting small before going big: He first won the Mister Face of Champaran title at the district level, and only that win opened the door to the state level stage.
  • Seizing the opportunity when it came: Sagar took his wildcard entry into the state level contest seriously, building a lead in every round to eventually claim the title.
