Mahi Baranwal, residing in Batiya village under Sono block of Jamui district, is garnering widespread appreciation for creating detailed and smooth artwork using nothing more than ordinary sketch pens. Living nearly 50 kilometers away from the district headquarters, she recognized her innate talent and honed it through relentless practice.
Self-Taught Mastery Without Online Tutorials
Currently pursuing her first year of undergraduate studies, Mahi has never received formal training in fine arts. She did not enroll in any art academy, nor did she rely on instructional videos on YouTube or other social media platforms. Mahi shares that every technique she employs was acquired independently through experimentation. Her creative journey began during her school years when she drew simple sketches, which gradually evolved into a lifelong passion.
34 Hours of Precision and Seamless Detail
Working exclusively with sketch pens demands immense patience and control. While artists typically use watercolors, acrylics, or oil paints for detailed illustrations, Mahi relies solely on sketch pens. Her technique is so refined that individual stroke lines remain completely invisible on the final canvas. The resulting pieces appear so seamless that observers often mistake them for high-resolution machine prints rather than hand-drawn portraits. Completing a single piece requires between 32 and 34 hours of dedicated labor, and she has produced dozens of such artworks to date.
Social Media Recognition and Professional Growth
Recognizing early on that she wanted to pursue art seriously, Mahi began posting images of her completed works on Instagram. The overwhelming positive response and growing view counts significantly bolstered her confidence. For the past 3 to 4 years, she has been operating as a professional artist, receiving custom artwork requests and orders from art enthusiasts on Instagram.

Mahi attributes a large part of her perseverance to her supportive family, who actively encourage her to balance her academic commitments with her artistic career.
