A 17-year-old student from Bihar's Sitamarhi district has achieved something lakhs of aspirants spend years chasing, a clean crack of the NEET exam. Krishna Anand's result has become a matter of pride for his entire district. NEET is widely regarded as the single biggest gateway into medical colleges across the country, which is exactly why scoring a strong rank in it is never easy for any student. Roughly 23 lakh 33 thousand students appeared for the exam nationwide, of whom only about 11 lakh 21 thousand managed to clear it. Amid that fierce competition, Krishna secured an All India rank of 1500 and a rank of 488 within the OBC category. As soon as the result came out, celebrations broke out among his family and well-wishers.
Years of preparation in Kota, with his brother as inspiration
Krishna's success did not come out of nowhere. He completed his entire schooling from class 8th to 12th while based in Kota, and it was there that he prepared for NEET around the clock. Staying away from his family to study was never easy, but Krishna stayed disciplined and kept his focus firmly on his goal. Krishna is quick to share credit for this achievement, pointing to his elder brother, his parents and the teachers who guided him at every step. His elder brother is currently pursuing an engineering degree in the Computer Science branch in Delhi, and has remained one of Krishna's biggest sources of motivation.
A family of doctors that shaped his dream
Medicine already runs in Krishna's family, which is part of why the ambition to become a doctor took root in him early in life. With several doctors and medical professionals already present in the family, this world of medicine was always familiar territory for Krishna. His uncle, Dr. Amlendu Kumar, is a well-known MD Radiologist who runs a hospital called Anand Diagnostic Center, which is managed entirely by Krishna's father, Dharmendra Kumar. Watching his uncle treat patients over the years planted the desire in Krishna to one day count himself among the country's finest doctors, a goal he set out to turn into reality by the time he finished class 12.
Setbacks along the way, but he refused to give up
Krishna says his studies through classes 8 to 10 were fairly ordinary, and it was only in classes 11 and 12 that his real preparation for NEET began. He faced several ups and downs during that stretch but never let them break his resolve. He stayed focused on the study material and lectures provided by his coaching institute. Krishna believes that clearing an exam like NEET depends far less on memorising theory and far more on practising mock tests and solving as many questions as possible, and that is exactly where he concentrated his effort during preparation. His advice to other NEET aspirants is to put in equal effort on daily practice sets alongside their theory.
A proud family, and a new goal: becoming a cardiologist
Krishna's achievement has left his entire family beaming. His uncle, Dr. Praveen Kumar, said that securing rank 1500 among lakhs of competing students is a matter of immense pride for Sitamarhi district. His rank came within the OBC category, something the family regards as the biggest reward for all the hard work and preparation behind it. His father, Dharmendra Kumar, and his mother, Renu Rani, who works as an Anganwadi worker, are overjoyed watching their son's dedication and hard work pay off. Krishna's next goal is to become a cardiologist, and he hopes to complete his further medical education at one of the country's top medical colleges.
