The hardship facing the family originated in 2017 following the sudden demise of Ishu's father, Pragi Lal Yadav. Left without a primary earner, her mother, Lalita Yadav, assumed sole responsibility for managing household expenses and supporting her daughter's schooling. Living in the Hanspuram area of Naubasta in Kanpur, Lalita Yadav worked tirelessly as a domestic helper to fund Ishu's studies at KP Vizen Sahyogi Inter College. Despite her relentless efforts, rising living expenses made it increasingly difficult to meet recurring tuition demands, leading to an accumulated fee debt of ₹29,000. With Class 12 board examinations approaching and the looming risk of discontinuation due to non-payment, the distressed mother and daughter visited the Collectorate during Raksha Bandhan seeking official relief.
A Sacred Thread and an Executive Commitment to Education
During the Janta Darshan session, Ishu presented her grievance before District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, explaining the financial constraints preventing her from settling the ₹29,000 inter-college fee. Following her explanation, Ishu expressed a personal wish to tie a Rakhi on the District Magistrate's wrist. Respecting her sentiments, DM Jitendra Pratap Singh accepted the sacred thread and offered his blessings. Emphasizing his duty to protect her educational aspirations, the District Magistrate committed to eliminating every financial barrier hindering her academic progression.
Fee Resolution: Personal Pocket Payment and Institutional Waiver
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh immediately contacted the principal of KP Vizen Sahyogi Inter College in Naubasta over the phone. After reviewing the family's socio-economic background, the District Magistrate initiated a collaborative financial solution. He personally contributed 50 percent of the outstanding ₹29,000 balance from his own funds, while successfully persuading the school principal to waive the remaining 50 percent. This immediate financial intervention completely relieved the family of their debt burden and ensured that Ishu could continue her Class 12 education without disruption.
Easing the Daily Commute with a New Bicycle
In subsequent interactions, the District Magistrate learned that Ishu resided in Hanspuram, approximately 2 kilometers away from her school campus. Lacking any personal transport or financial means for daily public transit, she was forced to walk the entire distance every day. To address this mobility challenge, DM Jitendra Pratap Singh arranged for a brand new bicycle. On August 27, the bicycle was formally handed over to Ishu at the Collectorate, enabling her to commute safely and comfortably between her home and school.
Aspiring Civil Servant Receives Mentorship from Deputy Collector Jyoti Sharma
Upon receiving the bicycle, Ishu shared her long-term goal of clearing the civil services examination to become an IAS officer and serve underprivileged citizens. Impressed by her determination and clarity of vision, the District Magistrate took steps to provide structured academic backing. He designated Kanpur Deputy Collector Jyoti Sharma to serve as Ishu's official mentor. Under this mentorship arrangement, Deputy Collector Jyoti Sharma will regularly guide Ishu through her Class 12 coursework and provide strategic preparation advice for upcoming competitive examinations.
