Apple has officially rolled out its latest smartphone lineup, generating immense excitement among tech enthusiasts worldwide. Alongside the arrival of the company's very first foldable device, the iPhone Fold, the tech giant introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. While these new Pro models retain a familiar exterior design, the generational leap under the hood is substantial.
Discontinuation of Previous Pro Models
In line with its standard business routine, Apple immediately discontinued the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max following the new launch. The company maintains a strict policy of never selling two generations of Pro iPhones side by side at overlapping prices. Starting September 9, these older flagship models will no longer be available for purchase directly through the official Apple website, though remaining stock may still be found on third-party e-commerce platforms until supplies run out.
Major Internal Upgrades and Pricing
The most significant enhancements reside deep within the hardware. The iPhone 18 Pro series incorporates Apple's first-ever 2 nm smartphone processor, a brand-new variable-aperture main camera system, extended battery endurance, enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities, and a refined Dynamic Island interface. However, these advanced features come at a noticeably higher cost for consumers, particularly in India.
Indian Pricing and Generational Price Hike
In the Indian market, the iPhone 18 Pro begins at Rs. 164,900, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs. 179,900. This represents a significant jump of Rs. 30,000 over the launch pricing of their respective predecessors, as the older iPhone 17 Pro debuted at Rs. 134,900 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max started at Rs. 149,900.
A20 Pro Chipset and Performance
The foundational shift between the two generations is the transition from the A19 Pro to the brand-new A20 Pro chip. Built on an advanced 2 nm manufacturing process, this processor is engineered to sustain peak performance over longer durations without throttling. For context, the previous generation utilized the A19 Pro, which featured a six-core CPU, a six-core GPU, and a sixteen-core Neural Engine.
Camera Innovations and Zoom Range
Photography and videography enthusiasts will notice the most practical improvements within the camera setup. Apple has integrated a variable-aperture mechanism into the main camera for the very first time, anchored by a 48MP Fusion Main sensor. The telephoto capabilities have also evolved, offering a 4x telephoto lens at 100mm and an optical-quality 8x telephoto at 200mm, delivering a total optical-quality zoom range of up to 16x.
Battery Endurance and Display Design
Power efficiency has seen a notable boost as well. According to official specifications, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is rated for up to 43 hours of continuous video playback, which Apple states is an increase of up to six hours over the previous year's maximum model. From an aesthetic standpoint, the physical dimensions remain similar with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display options, but the front-facing Dynamic Island cutout has been streamlined to display up to three live activities simultaneously.
