To address this challenge, Jio has introduced JioShield, a comprehensive safety tool designed to provide location tracking, emergency SOS alerts, and digital management features all in a single platform. This newly rolled-out solution aims to safeguard family members during both their outdoor movements and digital interactions.
Through JioShield, parents can effortlessly monitor their children's real-time location and receive essential safety notifications whenever required. The system even triggers an alert if the device's battery drops to a critically low level. For younger users, the platform allows guardians to regulate screen time, manage accessible applications, and control contact lists.
This means comprehensive oversight can be maintained over a child's digital footprint. Similarly, these monitoring and assistance capabilities can be extended to elderly parents, ensuring they remain connected and can easily signal for help in times of need.
Setting up the service on mobile devices is kept remarkably straightforward. Users need to install the JioThings application on the parent's smartphone, while the JioShield app must be installed on the device belonging to the child or senior family member. Once both applications are successfully linked, guardians can manage location details, screen time limits, and app preferences directly from their own phones.
The annual subscription fee for JioShield is set at ₹1,000, which translates to an average monthly cost of roughly ₹83, requiring a one-time upfront payment of ₹1,000. However, as part of Jio's 10th-anniversary celebrations, the company is offering matching Jio recharge vouchers worth a total of ₹1,000, effectively making the service free of cost for users.
In addition to this, the promotional package bundles several value-added perks, including a 12-month subscription to Canva Pro worth ₹4,000 and a 28-day Unlimited 5G upgrade. The ₹1,000 recharge benefit will be distributed across 10 individual vouchers worth ₹100 each, which can be redeemed against recharges of Unlimited 5G plans priced at ₹399 or higher.
The service became available starting September 26. To run the application smoothly, the device used by the child or senior must operate on Android 10 or a higher version and possess an active Jio connection. Meanwhile, the JioThings app for parents is currently available on Android devices, with support for iOS scheduled to roll out starting October 1.
