Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow is preparing for a significant scale-up in flight operations ahead of the upcoming winter season. Under the newly designed winter schedule, daily aircraft movements at the facility will expand from 108 to 134 flights. Adding to the international flight options, direct passenger services between Lucknow and Bangkok will officially resume from November 17. The transition toward the winter timetable begins on October 25 and is scheduled to become completely operational by November 1. Passengers will receive direct air connectivity to 20 domestic destinations alongside 10 international hubs, featuring prominent overseas destinations such as Abu Dhabi and Riyadh.
Thai AirAsia to Operate Direct Bangkok Service
Direct air connectivity between Lucknow and Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) is being reactivated through airline carrier Thai AirAsia starting November 17. Under the designated operating schedule, the incoming aircraft from Bangkok is timed to touch down in Lucknow at 10:35 PM (2235 hours). The return leg will depart Lucknow for Bangkok shortly afterward at 11:30 PM (2330 hours). This late-night service introduces an additional overseas option for holidaymakers, students, and business travellers heading toward Southeast Asia.
Coordination Measures for Fog and Low Visibility
To mitigate the disruptions regularly brought by dense seasonal fog and reduced visibility across northern India during the winter months, airport administrators have accelerated operational precautions. Ensuring safe aircraft management throughout the foggy period has remained a focal point. Airport officials recently held a comprehensive coordination meeting focused on the 'Pre-Low Visibility Procedure' (LVP) with key operational stakeholders, including airline partners, Air Traffic Control (ATC), the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and auxiliary handling agencies to review technical readiness.
Alternative Landing Support for 149 Diverted Flights
Beyond catering to its scheduled domestic and global traffic, the facility has actively functioned as an operational buffer for regional airspace. Since January of this year, approximately 149 flights redirected from other airports due to operational roadblocks, weather constraints, or scheduling snags were accommodated and landed in Lucknow. These diversion handlings have allowed regional flight networks to maintain continuity during difficult operating scenarios across northern routes.
Expansion Dependent on Airline Rosters and Geopolitics
The proposed expansion remains anchored to current schedules submitted by participating airline partners. Depending on real-time operational requirements, fleet logistics, and individual airline policies, the total flight counts, operational frequencies, and departure timings may undergo necessary adjustments. Furthermore, shifting geopolitical developments, including the ongoing instability across West Asia, could also bear an influence on the functioning of these scheduled international corridors.
