Travelers commuting between Maharashtra's prime tech hub Pune and Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar are set to get direct air connectivity. Private carrier IndiGo has scheduled the introduction of daily non-stop flights connecting the two major cities, with operations commencing on October 25, 2026. The launch comes right in time for the festive rush, offering passenger convenience and cutting transit time down to barely two hours without the hassle of intermediate layovers.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft Details
IndiGo plans to deploy an Airbus A-320 aircraft configured with approximately 180 seats on this sector. According to the operational timetable, the service will depart Pune Airport nightly at 11:50 PM and touch down in Bhubaneswar at 1:55 AM following a flight time of roughly 2 hours and 5 minutes.
On the return leg, the aircraft is scheduled to take off from Bhubaneswar late night at 2:35 AM, arriving back in Pune early morning at 5:00 AM. Operating on a daily frequency, the overnight schedule enables working professionals and students to travel overnight and reach their destination at the start of the day.
Boost for Tech Professionals and Students
Both Pune and Bhubaneswar serve as prominent information technology corridors and higher education centers across India. A substantial population of IT engineers, corporate professionals, and university students regularly travels between Maharashtra and Odisha.
Previously, passengers on this corridor largely depended on connecting flights via intermediate hubs, which significantly prolonged travel durations. A dedicated non-stop link removes transit dependencies, streamlining commercial engagements, student mobility, and family visits during peak holiday periods.
Strengthening Heritage and Cultural Tourism
Known across the country as the 'Temple City of India', Bhubaneswar boasts renowned spiritual and architectural landmarks. Chief among them is the historic Lingaraj Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, alongside the Mukteshwar Temple celebrated for its intricate carvings and arched torana. Other notable heritage sites include the Rajarani Temple, crafted from red and yellow sandstone, and the ancient Parashurameshvara Temple. Direct flights will offer pilgrims and history enthusiasts hassle-free access to these sites.
Simultaneously, Pune holds stature as the cultural capital of Maharashtra, renowned for Maratha history, academia, arts, and vibrant industry. Its prime landmarks include Shaniwar Wada, the Aga Khan Palace with deep ties to the Indian independence movement, and the revered Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple. The surrounding region also features famed forts such as Sinhagad and Shivneri. The direct link is expected to spur reciprocal tourism across both historical landscapes.
Fifteenth Domestic Route from Bhubaneswar
The commencement of this route marks further network expansion for IndiGo out of Biju Patnaik International Airport. The airline currently connects Bhubaneswar to approximately 14 domestic cities. With Pune joining the map, the carrier's direct destination count from the Odisha capital will rise to 15.
