Residents and history enthusiasts in the national capital will soon get an immersive opportunity to explore the city's rich past and natural landscapes. The Delhi Development Authority has announced a comprehensive series of heritage and nature walks designed for the general public, with activities scheduled to kick off on October 24. This unique public engagement initiative aims to connect citizens, particularly the younger generation, with Delhi's diverse historical monuments and ecological treasures while fostering a deeper appreciation for conservation.
According to details released by the authority, a total of twelve walks will be conducted over a six-month period across six prominent historical and natural locations in the city, with each site hosting two separate sessions. To ensure the smooth execution of this cultural program, the Delhi Development Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Delhi chapter of INTACH. Under this collaborative framework, the partner organization will handle the route planning, theme conceptualization, informational content, and expert heritage guides, while the development authority will manage administrative requirements, venue entries, and official permissions.
Selected Locations and Event Schedule
The six-month initiative covers six distinct locations known for their ecological or historical significance. These include Sanjay Van, Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Sultan Garhi, Tughlaqabad, Deer Park and Hauz Khas, and the Northern Ridge. The opening event of the entire series is scheduled for October 24 at 4 pm at the Mehrauli Archaeological Park. During this inaugural walk, participants will be introduced to the architectural marvels, ancient buildings, and lesser-known historical narratives associated with the site.
Every designated location will feature two separate walks over the course of the program. The structured route maps and informational brochures are being prepared by domain experts to ensure visitors receive accurate historical contexts. The administrative machinery ensures that all necessary regulatory clearances and safety protocols are met before each session commences at the respective heritage sites.
Registration, Participation Fees, and Planning Vision
Participation in each walk is capped at a maximum of forty individuals to maintain a manageable group size and provide an engaging interactive environment. Interested applicants are required to pay a fee of five hundred rupees plus GST per person at the time of registration. Booking slots can be secured online through the official DDA registration portal.
This initiative aligns directly with the broader objectives outlined in the Master Plan for Delhi 2047, which emphasizes the preservation of urban heritage alongside sustainable and planned city development. By bringing citizens closer to these landmarks, the authorities hope to generate widespread awareness regarding the protection of Delhi's invaluable cultural, historical, and natural assets for future generations.
