Voting commenced peacefully on Monday morning for the crucial local elections across 587 village committees falling under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Comprehensive security measures have been deployed by the administration to prevent any potential disruption during this extensive exercise.
Massive Turnout and Smooth Execution at Polling Stations
The State Election Commission secretary, Anurag Sen, confirmed that the polling process began smoothly at 8:00 AM. There are 1,095 polling booths established across all districts to facilitate voters. People showed up early in significant numbers, creating long queues at multiple polling centers. No untoward incidents have been reported since the start of the voting, which stands as a testament to the efficient security planning and local administration efforts.
Understanding the Electoral Math and Unopposed Seats
Out of a total of 4,597 seats spread across 587 village committees in the Sixth Schedule regions, active voting is happening for 2,950 seats. The remaining 1,644 seats did not require voting because candidates from the TMP and the BJP secured them unopposed. A total of 8,176 candidates are competing today, representing major political factions like the TMP, BJP, CPI(M), Congress, and the IPFT. Although the overall voter rolls list 9,61,977 registered voters, the actual number of individuals eligible to cast their votes today is lower because of the previously decided unopposed seats.
Security Network and Campaign Phase Conclusions
To prevent any disruptions, district administrations deployed a massive security net. Over 15,000 security personnel from both central and state forces are on duty. This massive force includes approximately 74 companies of the CAPF, numbering around 5,000 personnel. They are assisted by roughly 10,000 personnel drawn from the TSR and the Tripura Police. This deployment follows the peaceful end of the official campaign phase, which concluded at 4:00 PM on Saturday. The administrative efforts ensure that the tribal population can vote safely.

The TTAADC holds massive geographical importance, spanning nearly two-thirds of the territory of Tripura. However, despite its vast physical footprint, the population residing in these hilly tribal regions is relatively smaller compared to the state's flat plains, standing at approximately 15 lakh residents.
