The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has announced a major strategic restructuring of the party organization across the country. In a bid to strengthen the party's grassroots presence, expand its voter base among all communities (Sarv Samaj), and streamline administrative control, she has divided the party’s operations into three distinct sectors. Mayawati shared this organizational shift on her official account on the social media platform X, outlining how responsibilities have been distributed among senior party leaders to ensure systematic work across various states.
The Structure of the Three New Organizational Sectors
Under this newly implemented framework, the first sector comprises 10 states. The responsibility for coordinating and managing all BSP party affairs in Sector 1 has been assigned to two central sector-in-charge leaders: BSP Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Ramji Gautam and Suresh Rao. They are tasked with building organizational strength, managing cadre activities, and driving outreach programs across these 10 states to revitalize the party's local units.
The second sector consists of 9 states. The operations in Sector 2 are being spearheaded by another pair of central sector-in-charge leaders: former Rajya Sabha MP Rajaram and former MLA Atar Singh Rao. These experienced leaders are working together to oversee all political and organizational matters for the BSP in these states. The division is designed to decentralize operational decision-making while maintaining close coordination with the central leadership.
The third sector is the most critical and includes the key states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Unlike the other two sectors, Sector 3 will be managed directly by the BSP's central camp office located at 9 Mall Avenue in Lucknow. This direct channel of command means that Mayawati herself is personally supervising all political strategies, organizational developments, and candidate selections in these two crucial states, ensuring high-level focus on the party's primary stronghold.
Demand for State Assistance Amid Natural Disasters
In her extensive public statement, Mayawati also addressed the severe difficulties faced by citizens due to extreme weather conditions across India. She pointed out that heavy rainfall, severe storms, and thunderous weather in several parts of the country have plunged ordinary people into deep distress. She urged all respective state governments to step up their relief efforts, demanding that they extend complete and unconditional assistance to affected populations at every level to help them navigate these difficult natural circumstances.
Highlighting regional issues, Mayawati drew special attention to the drought conditions in Maharashtra. She urged the Maharashtra state government to move beyond mere bureaucratic formalities and offer meaningful, ground-level assistance to the drought-hit population, particularly farmers. She emphasized that the state must take immediate measures to provide real and rapid relief to help farmers recover from their financial and agricultural losses.
Directives to Party Cadres and Strict Fundraising Bans
Addressing the natural disasters, the BSP chief issued a clear call to action to her party workers, especially those operating under the four central coordinators of Sector 1 and Sector 2. She appealed to BSP members in all affected states where heavy rainfall and storms have caused severe loss of life and property to step forward and assist the victims. She urged them to provide maximum help according to their individual capabilities.
However, Mayawati wrote on X a crucial directive, stating that party workers must not collect any separate funds or financial contributions for this relief work. She explained that this strict rule has been put in place to ensure that no individuals or external elements can exploit the disaster situation for personal gain or use the name of the party to raise unauthorized funds. The relief must be self-funded and executed with complete transparency.
Potential Deployment of National Coordinator and Appeal to Centre
To ensure proper monitoring of the relief operations, Mayawati stated that she might deploy the newly appointed BSP National Coordinator, Ishan Anand, to the states that are most severely impacted by the natural calamities. Ishan Anand was recently appointed to this crucial national role by Mayawati to help steer the party's national coordinating efforts, and his potential deployment highlights the seriousness with which the party is approaching the crisis.
For Sector 3, which covers Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Mayawati clarified that she is keeping a very close personal eye on the situation. She indicated that she might personally visit the disaster-affected areas in these two states to review the ground realities and meet with affected residents. Finally, she made an official appeal to the Central Government, urging it to provide timely, comprehensive, and adequate support to the state governments of the worst-hit regions, which she described as the most appropriate course of action.
The Severe Flood and Rain Crisis in Uttar Pradesh
The urgency of Mayawati's statements is highlighted by the devastating weather conditions currently unfolding in Uttar Pradesh. Around 63 districts in the state are currently reeling under the impact of heavy and persistent rainfall. In major urban centers such as Lucknow, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur, several city areas have turned into flood zones, with waterlogged streets and residential areas stranding thousands of families in their homes.
The severe weather has completely disrupted normal life across both urban and rural parts of Uttar Pradesh. Districts such as Gonda and Shravasti are dealing with intense inundation, while rural pockets in Deoria, Mau, Gorakhpur, and Ballia are suffering from widespread power cuts. The heavy downpour and storms have caused trees and electricity poles to collapse at hundreds of locations, snapping power lines and blocking local transport routes, leaving residents to cope with severe daily struggles.
