Chandrapal Singh Lodhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA representing the Dibai assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, sustained critical injuries in a severe road accident on Saturday. The incident occurred while the lawmaker was traveling from Lucknow toward Ghaziabad in a high-speed Fortuner SUV. As the vehicle reached the Ganga Expressway near Pota Kaboolpur village, the driver lost control, leading to a catastrophic crash that left the automobile heavily wrecked and its occupants severely hurt.
Tyre burst and waterlogging led to severe crash
Preliminary investigation suggests that a sudden tyre blowout occurred while the vehicle was navigating the expressway. Furthermore, rain-induced waterlogging and standing water on the road surface caused the SUV's tyres to lose traction and skid. The combined impact of the tyre burst and slippage caused the driver to lose complete control over the steering. The speeding Fortuner smashed violently into a roadside pole and a highway divider before flipping over. Alongside MLA Chandrapal Singh Lodhi, his assigned security gunner and personal driver were inside the car during the collision.
Severe chest injury leaves lawmaker in critical condition
The impact of the collision resulted in life-threatening injuries for the BJP legislator. Medical reports revealed that a broken rib punctured one of his lungs, causing intense respiratory complications and rendering his health state extremely critical. Upon hearing the loud crash, nearby residents from surrounding villages and passing motorists rushed to the scene to render assistance. The bystanders launched immediate rescue efforts, carefully extracting the trapped MLA, his gunner, and the driver from the mangled wreckage of the SUV.
Initial medical aid in Hapur and referral to Delhi AIIMS
Police personnel dispatched to the scene arrived shortly after receiving emergency calls regarding the crash. Emergency workers transported all three injured individuals to a private medical facility located in neighboring Hapur district. Attending medical staff at the Hapur hospital administered emergency first aid to stabilize the legislator. However, given the severity of the internal thoracic injury involving the punctured lung, doctors advised immediate specialized surgical intervention and officially referred him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
Police initiate probe near district boundary
The accident spot falls under the jurisdiction of the BB Nagar police station, located right along the border separating Hapur and Bulandshahr districts. Following news of the incident, police contingents from both district authorities reached the location to assess the situation. Officers conducted a preliminary inspection, arranged for towing equipment to clear the damaged vehicle off the thoroughfare, and initiated a formal investigation into the sequence of events leading to the collision.
