Arunachal Pradesh Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing on Saturday emphasized the need for tighter coordination among government departments and ongoing engagement with local communities to ensure the smooth execution of survey activities for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
High-Level Review Meeting Held in Yingkiong
Tasing shared these directives while chairing his maiden meeting with department heads, administrative officers, and paramilitary personnel in Yingkiong, located within the Upper Siang district, serving in his capacity as Chairman of the Empowered High Level Committee on SUMP. The gathering saw participation from the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, various departmental heads, and key stakeholders. Discussions focused heavily on ways to facilitate ground surveys, streamline inter-agency cooperation, and resolve potential hurdles that might impact the implementation of the exercise.
Clarifying the Purpose of Pre-Feasibility Studies
Stressing the necessity for transparent and accountable communication, Tasing noted that building public confidence and addressing local grievances are paramount. He explicitly clarified that the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) exercise is strictly designed to evaluate the technical viability of the envisioned project through field studies and surveys, and does not represent a definitive decision regarding its execution.
Directives on Fact-Based Communication and Reporting
The minister instructed officials to guarantee that all information disseminated to the public remains thoroughly verified, factual, and communicated via open dialogue. Furthermore, he mandated the systematic documentation of public feedback alongside the submission of weekly progress reports detailing field developments, community interactions, and operational challenges.

Pushing for greater inter-departmental convergence and shared responsibility, Tasing pointed out that converting development strategies into concrete outcomes is essential for strengthening Upper Siang and fostering a better-connected, self-reliant region.
