In a planned burglary in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, two perpetrators broke into a customer service point on Roorkee Road and fled with lakhs of rupees in cash. The criminals executed the theft after conducting a daytime reconnaissance of the premises to identify vulnerabilities. Returning during the late hours of the night, they broke through a wooden partition separating an adjoining automated teller machine kiosk from the service centre, grabbed the cash stored inside, and made a quick escape. The sequence was captured across security cameras installed at the centre and nearby commercial establishments.
Targeting the Bank of India Service Centre on Roorkee Road
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station along Roorkee Road, where a customer service point affiliated with Bank of India operates. Video recordings from surveillance cameras revealed the two suspects wandering around the facility during daytime hours. Investigators noted that the duo used this daylight walkthrough to examine entry and exit routes, checking the layout to execute the break-in without raising immediate alarm.
Following their daytime survey, the two suspects returned to the location under cover of darkness. Equipped with wooden support, they targeted the wooden wall positioned next to the ATM unit. By breaking through this barrier, they created an opening large enough to slip inside the customer service centre. Once inside, they swept up the cash kept in the premises and fled the area before anyone could intervene. Authorities confirmed that the stolen sum amounts to several lakhs of rupees.
Surveillance Footage Captures Reconnaissance and Break-in
The entire operation, starting from the daytime inspection to the forced midnight entry and escape, was documented on security footage. Clips showing the burglary circulated on social media platforms shortly after the crime came to light. Upon being notified about the incident, local police personnel arrived at the location to inspect the damage, gather physical evidence, and retrieve the camera logs.
Initial discussions surrounding the break-in suggested that an ATM kiosk had been looted, but law enforcement officers clarified the physical layout of the crime scene. The cash dispensing machine itself was untouched, with the theft confined entirely to the adjacent banking facilitation kiosk.
Police Investigation and Official Statements
Clarifying the sequence of events, Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth K Mishra stated that the burglary took place late at night. He clarified that while reports initially described it as an ATM theft, the machine itself was not breached; instead, the burglary occurred at the public service centre situated right next to the ATM, from where cash was stolen.
Mishra added that a police team rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving the emergency call. According to the senior officer, investigators have already identified the suspects involved in the crime and expect to take them into custody soon. Addressing the financial loss, Mishra noted that the stolen amount is reported to be a few lakhs of rupees, with the police verifying details provided by the complainant. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that precise figures will be released once the suspects are arrested and the stolen money is recovered.
